Acrylic reducer in paint...

For anyone who hasn’t tried reducing water base paint with Future or Isris floor sealer, man, try it. I painted three colors on a board in one eve, masking over one color to paint the next and had no paint come up with the tape. Thanks to Herb for another great tip!

Also, you can get some great looking transparent colors this way

I agree,I’ve used it on 3 boards so far and it works great. No thinning with water!! My last one was orange and as Jim said I thinned with quite a bit of future (almost 50%) and it came out bright and semi opaque. My daughter calls it the “dreamsicle” it looks great. Great tip Herb…swaylocks rules!!! Peace and waves…

…I use only Future floor sealer for mixing and sealing paints.I use Iris Supercrylic and/or Behr Industrial floor sealer (basically acrylic) for sealing finished fiberglass products(like my truck shell or surfboards). The latter two products contain waxes, ammonia, and a assorted amounts of petro-chemicals.Not good for paints.

…Future is a fair+ sealer for finished sanded surfboards. It clouds when applied too thick and/or is not allowed to dry properly, and will actually go to water and get tacky, sticky. But if it’s all you got and you know the do’s and don’ts ,it works.

…Future is the best additive I have used for mixing w/ paints be it acrylics or waterbase jobs like tempuras ( poster paints.). Water, alcohol, and lacquer thinners all breakdown/destroy the properties of acrylics(like thinning resin w/acetone)and fade or destroy the pigment in the color base.Future increases the bond and brings up the color making them more vibrant and rich.Sealing a finished blank w/ future is the best…a lite-moderate coat over the entire blank will give it a glow that you’ve never seen before, even if there’s no painting involved. It also helps in the bond and reduction in yellowing.(remember don’t dump a truck load on it and then wonder what went wrong).

…Future is for the most part just water-based acrylic,w/o the cutters, softening agents, and waxes.Future’s acrylic concentrations is the best I have found, even over the specialized stuff for artsy-fartsy users ,or agents that are sold for mixing/thinning paints. The price per volume and avaliblity is mucho better too…buy a long shot.It also has a pleasent fragance/odor to it(rather than smelling like cat piss)and can be bought at you local super or Target stores for about 5 dollars a 25 ounce bottle.Herb

…oh yeah,

…because you use less or zero water…

…it also dries faster.Herb

…A true story,

…Last summer at a fav local no.o.c. break,I surfed a triple session that day(surfed 12+ hours that day from first light to dusk). On the last session, the owner of The Harbour surf shop,Robert paddled out and rode some waves w/ us…He asked me how I got my boards to glow like he’d had never seen any other board glow…I gave him the rundown about sealing, blanks, and finished boards,Future floor polish…and…he looked at me like I was crazy…I wonder if they figured it out over there at the Harbour camp?

…I then told him it was a sanded finish board, not glossed and polished…I thought his head was going to spin off like a top,and explode.Herb
