ad styrene with uv resin!!!?is that possible

hi

just few question for experienced laminators!i’ve used some uv resin to laminate my board but find it a little bit thick, especially when saturating cloth on rails!!!is that possible to thin UV resin with styrène as with traditionnal resin!!and what % should i put into! (even with non uv resin)???

and did someone use pigment with uv resin!!!

I have used colour with UV and it works just fine. just make sure, like with reg that the colour is mixed in compleatley…no blobs.

thinning with styrene is O.K. but no more that 3% or it just wont set propper.

styrene solvent should have directions on the tin. follow that.

personaly I have never seen the need to “thin it out”.

If its going off too fast just add less catalyst so every thing can soak propper.

cheers,

M

p.s.

I forgot to mention when I use colour with UV I usualy add a little catalyst to make sure it goes off.

I’ve mixed surfacing agent, styrene and pigments with UV resin with no ill effects. I didn’t really calculate the proportions but I suppose it may have compromised some strength. Pigmented resin can’t be totally opaque or UV rays won’t penetrate. For laminations, hot coats and gloss, the UV doesn’t have to penetrate very far.

And, you can always add some catalyst to the UV to make sure it kicks. Mike
