Additive F Question

I purchased my first can of Additive F. Thought I would try it out on an epoxy job I need to start on TODAY. I can’t find the thread that covered in detail what exactly Additive F does, how to use it, etc. I need to know exactly what the stuff does. Will it make my epoxy glass job ready for hotcoat sooner? Does it set up faster? Funny…I ordered it and I don’t even know what it does! Got it in the mail with no instructions except for quantity to use. If anyone can enlighten me real soon, I would appreciate it! Otherwise I think I will go ahead and glass without it this time.

Thanks in advance!

additive f is a sanding agent call greg at rr if you want all the nitty gritty

For laminating, use the quantity that comes with it, it helps the gel stage be less dramatic but does accelerate the process a bit. Final hardening (for surforming, on lamination) is faster & smoother.

For hotcoat, use twice the specified amount. It helps it set up faster, smoother, and without voids, pits, zits, and bubbles. Helps with surface tension so resin doesn’t drain off. Then sands smoother once cured…

My first board I was super precise in measuring and on this board I’ve just ruffed if by using portions of a capful. I couldn’t see any difference.

LamWoman:

Additive F reduces amine blush, if you use it in all stages of filling, laminating and epoxy hotcoat there is no need to use denatured alcohol washes. Mix 1 ml. per oz of hardener used, for epoxy gloss coats I double this ratio. I mix my A and B well before adding the Add F. You can be pretty loose with your measuring on this as with sanding agent in polyester. No epoxy builder should go without this stuff these days, go 24 hours between lams or filler coats and all is well. Not sure about Polyester glosscoats on top of Add F, test it first. Also be aware that Resin Research has a new product, an accelerator (XL-55?) for use in kicking off hotcoats faster with their epoxy products.

P.S.- can you use some more books?

Thanks Tom. I feel real queer about throwing a unfamiliar ingredient into my batter. I absolutely HATE it when something goes wrong! And I will be wanting to do a Poly gloss coat on the board. I could get very hostile if it were to be incompatible… Is there any printed info on Additive F available out there anywhere?

P.S. Always more books. More, More, More

I trust Greg’s experience with epoxy. He says its nearly essential so I wouldn’t go it without it (its part of his system), but you can give him a call (use his cell phone number or you’ll never get through) and he’ll answer questions to you hearts content.
