I am hot coating my board in a few hours and I have the epoxy and resin ready but i dont have any additive F… is there anything that can substitute for it? what about wax (what kind)? also, can i just go ahead and hot coat my board w/ just the epoxy and sand it? (i dont mind a little bit of work)
Hey S.M.
No promises about the outcome but I don’t this if it was mine.
Sand the the board very lightly with 150 grit so there are nice teeth in the surface for the resin the grab hold of. Wipe the board down very thoroughly twice with a paper towel or cheese cloth with lots of alcohol. be extremely careful not to touch the board with you bare hands. Body oil is the number one cause of fish eyes IMHO. Apply you hot coat as you would normally and baby sit the board as the resin goes off you may have a few spots that will need a dab of resin so save a little for this. when the resin gets gummy and stops migrating you can apply a little to the low spots and squeege them out with a single edged razor blade to get a nice fair surface.
Let us know how it turns out.
No Worries, Rich
can i just wear gloves? or will the gloves react badly witht he alcohol or resin?
(My 100’th post… yay im a member)
I’ll post pics tonight (in about 6 hours)
Howzit Scott,In previous posts on this subject I believe you are supposed to use denatured alcohol since it is a purer alcohol. Aloha,Koka
I would suggest the denatured alcohol and also heating the resin. About 90-100 degrees will get it to flow and give you a better sanding surface with less blush. Add F is easier and better but this will help.
Hey S.M.
How did it go mate?
Good Waves, Rich
Worked pretty well… still have to do touch up and final sanding… ill post pics tonight (hopefully)
