Did the J.C. shaping 101 video give enough detailed information ? Is it worth buying? Or is there another shaping and glassing video that would be better?
Thanks,
Da Cheetah

The 101 vids are good for introducing someone to shaping, but they fail to cover a lot of little things. It is almost as if they assume you’ll know certain things.
The Damascus videos are far superior in terms of showing everything you need to know in both shaping and glassing.
However, with a little research, the 101 videos will be a good guide to make a board.

I think the 101 video is more useful if you have never shaped a board before. The Master Series is a must have, too, and is more useful after shaping a board or two. My two cents. Mike
Damn, I wish the Damascus DVD’s would stop getting such glowing reviews…That’s $100 that I could be spending on blanks, tools, etc… But I WANT both of them!
I can let you take a look at them Tenover when you show me all the super secret spots of San Diego. Be forwarned, if you see these vids - you’ll wanna buy them.

I have to agree with rooster. The 101 shaping video will definitely get you going in the right direction. Leaves a little to intuition and ingenuity which are skills a shaper is supposed to posess anyway right?? The DAmascus vid uses a longboard as a shaping illustration so that might be helpful for the loggers out there. The best part I thought was the running monologue by Jim describing his theory of how everything works together and the affect the different aspects have on performance. Thanks Jim! Bryan …get off your butt and go surfing! Keep repeating until you do! Get someone to show you how to get down the cliff at the end of the road (Turn uphill) at Sunset Cliffs. One of my favorite spots. Right side of the jetty (Mission beach?) another good spot. And Crystal pier.
Go for a drive…explore!
