Agave or Century Plant milling

Ok so I cut, stacked, and dried some Agave thats now about 1 1/2 years old. I have no problem milling smaller pieces to about 3-4ft lengths and 4 in dia. I run them through the band saw, and then the 13in surface planer. I’ve seen the Alaska saw mill in publications like fine wood working, but the chain saw scares the hell out of me, and the cost is out of control. Dixieline will mill it for $80 set up and $80 per hour but I only have a few pcs, not so cost effective. Any of you guys out there that have made Agave boards, how do you get square timbers 9-10ft out of this stuff? -Jay

Where are you located? I may be able to show you how to mill the lumber. I am in the Long Beach, CA area. It sounds like you have the tools you need. A band saw and surface planer.

Jay, I’m in Encinitas and build dozens of Agave boards and can mill wood for you, but $80.00 per hour sounds about right

I’m in San Diego, Atilla do you have any hints? And Jim are you set up to do the milling or do you out source?

Its too hard for me to explain here. Jim is alot closer to you. He does great work. And $80.00/hr is reasonable. He has all the equipment there. However, you can still come up here if you would like.
