Air brush/Air gun

Looking for any suggestions on a versatile air brush/paint gun and compressor. Something that can handle full board sprays to pin lines. Harbor Freight has many different ones, Foam EZ even has one for $17. Would like to spend under $60 for the gun, what do I need to know? Any suggestions?

harbor freight has some good ones. don’t buy the super cheapies though. I use the touch up gun to do taped off pinlines. my old big gun(full board sprays) just died last week so I just order a HVLP gun from HF that looks to be a good spray gun. Home Depot has a nice touch up gun for $16.00 looks better than the one from HF at $20.

OK, so I need two guns, one like the one you showed looks pretty good for the big spray jobs and one touch up gun for the fine details like pin lines. I don’t want to spend allot of money but as a previous art student my work needs to come out looking good for my own satisfaction. I’ll check out the touch spray gun at Home Depot tomorrow.

Dave, Home Desperate is a good resource for tools, but certainly not the only one. I highly recommend a trip to an auto paint supply store. They’re all over the place and they usually have high end and economy spray guns. I bought a gravity flow touch-up gun for about $40.00 that works like a charm for fine work. For larger areas, I have an old DeVilbiss that I got from the flea market. It’s top of the line and the guy wanted to get rid of it so he just gave it to me. I picked up a new cup for $20.00…at the auto paint store.

Regarding compressor’s: it has been stated before, but get a larger rather than smaller tank. You need even air flow. If the tank empties while you’re spraying, you’ll get the pulsing air directly from the cylinders and the paint will spray unevenly. Doug

Thanks for the info. What would you consider a large enough air tank and compressor?

Dave, I use an eleven gallon tank that is about right for surfboard spraying. If the tank is full and I spray continuously with my small touch-up gun, the compressor will kick on after about 30 seconds. By the way, my compressor is a Campbell-Hausfeld purchased at Home Depot. The motor allows for a pretty quick repressurizing of the tank, but it’s really loud and obnoxious when it’s running. You might consider some kind of sound proofing if the neighbors are close. Of if you just want to avoid loud, obnoxious noises. Doug
