Airline charges...

Hey all - I was looking into my summer plans and noticed bag charges, high board and bike charges, … Like $175.00 on united and northwest, $100.00 on Hawaiian - So, for boards and bike that’s =$700.00/$400.00 But…

I looked at Alaska, and from what I can read they only charge $75.00 = $300.00…

So, my question is:

Anyone out there know of “mo betta” deals to drag my cheap ass, (Well not that cheap I guess, or I’d just stay home… Ha!) and my boards and transportation to warmer climes?

when you fly to indo my friends tell me that the airline is really cheap, im not sure what the airline is called though

Hmm - My plan is to go back to Kauai, and camp, but save lots-o-cash by riding my bike, rather than renting a beater and burning up tons of gas.

In part that is my leaning, as I looked into air fair only, to Indo, and South Africa, and even Mainland Mexico… all were well over twice the price of Kauai. Kind of “weak” on my part too - I know many spots from Waimea to Shipwrecks - but mostly I’d surf acid drops… Ha!

will 101 … ok your goin to kauai … that was enough for the masses… we didnt need to hear about all the spots… i know there not secret spots but hey do you want kauai to be like oahu?? shhhhhh! and enjoy…

I acquired a 9’0"Pope Bisect for my trip this spring…I expect to pay a bit more, but not like I did last year when it was $150 each way…

Taylor----------I haven’t checked direct flights to Kauai from the NW or PDX but if you do it between now and sometime in March you can get a very good deal. Maybe enough savings to cover the board cost. Don’t know much about bike shipping. Otherwise ship you bike and buy a used board or viceaversa. Should be plenty of both on Kauai, considering the current economy. Have fun bradda. See you in the NW next spring/summer. Lowel

as advertized on sways awhile back

a joint called luggage club.

then we have am outfit

called honolulu freight service

a door to door freight consolidator

send it to me and of course

you have to crate it

but as long as you ship with enough

lead time you can save

considerably over the cost of

air transit.

whatever you do dont call it personal effects

as the rates for stuff is rated .

call it merchandise or something else…

…ambrose…

make it water proof so I can store it outside.

fed ex and ups are worth checking

sending to a business address is a cost streamline

Ah yes… the old Carry Grant style… show up with nothing on you but your hat… Ha!

I’ll look into shipping the bike/tent/etc.

First time I went I made my own 3 piece board, with a box to ship it in… worked out… I’ll revisit that realm some day, but for now I’m still honing in on my “thigh to double head high” design… Ha!

Sorry about naming spots - ones a town, two are not on maps, and one’s not much of a surf spot, but I hear ya…

After all this, I saw a thing on the news last night about low air fair to Mex due to the econ… Who knows?

Got a few months to plan - thanks for the encouragement all…

Darn good of you Sir Ambrose… Take him up on it Taylor. Get out of that snow and rain for a few days. Lowel

Ah - Gotta remember the premise of my post: I’m a recovering, self proclaimed, “cheap ass master,” and as such, I’m only gonna spend my money when I can make the most of the fixed cost… Mainly getting to and fro. So, as a teacher, the only time I can extend my stay to make it feel worth while is summer…

For now, just waiting for the elements to come together here in the neighborhood - as they do from time to time, and hopefully catch a few.

Three parts mini longboard (7’6"), light (carbon fiber /EPS), fits in a bag that do exceed the airlines 62"/158cm limit.
