just downloaded the aku shaper program. it worked when i downloaded it and opened it for the first time, except i could not save a board design, and after i closed it, it would not open again. i am using a mac osx. any idea what im doing wrong? do i need some sort of program to open it?
Aku Shaper has an unusual setup. Runs on Java, so should not matter what OS your using. Might help to have the current java version. Just install it again from the email link. I think the correct term is flaky. Save as… to save your file. Hopefully you’ll get a desktop icon.

You don’t need any sort of program to open the Aku Shaper program, if that’s what you’re asking. I’m not sure if you’re not able to get the file open again or to get the whole Aku Shaper program started up again.
What version of OSX do you have?
Yes we write our software in Java, this gives the flexibility to be operating system independent. Operating systems like Windows and GNU/Linux use Sun Microsystem’s Java. Mac OSX has compiled their own version of Java. This is the reason if you’re using OSX 10.3 and below, you’re forced to get the $100 upgrade of OSX, which comes with a newer version with Java. 10.3 and below is compiled with an old version of Java.
I’m not sure, and I don’t really think that is the problem you’re experiencing, but I’m not ruling it out at this stage. Are you getting any specific error messages?
If you’re not able to get the file open again, I would suggest what has already been suggested.
Go File → New
Pick a board
(optional: change some of the curves of the board to what you’d like)
Go File → Save As
Name it what you’d like and save it in the place where you want.
Then when you start Aku Shaper again:
File → Open
choose the folder where you put that .brd file
Open that file
Let me know if that works or if you have any more questions.

thats one of the problems there. when ive designed a board and go file> save, it wont let me save it cos the save button will not highlight under any folders at all. Also after i close aku the icon is on my desktop but when i click on it ,it wont open. the only way i can re open it is to go back to the downloaded file and go from there. i think ill try and get latest java. see if that helps.

I’m interested to hear if the latest version of Java helps this issue. This isn’t something we’ve seen before and we don’t use Macs a whole lot so any info you can provide would be very helpful.
We’re going to try to test this in the next couple days on a friend’s Mac.
If you can, can you please send me a screen shot of the software not letting you save because the save button isn’t highlighted under any folders at all.
Thanks for that.

hey all. after downloading the latest java, this fixed all my problems. she works fine now and am looking forward to my first design.
thanks for all the input…
I have a similar problem with akua shaper, I downloaded it but I think I clicked no for where it asks if I wanted a destop shortcut. Now i have to redownload it everytime I want to use it. There is no application to open. I think if I could uninstall aps3000 from my computer I could install it again and select a destop shortcut. I can’t uninstall it though.
