I just under catalyzed (0.5%) a pint of gloss resin thinking that it was sun cure… it was not. So two hours after laying down the gloss coat [bottom] it is finally beginning to gel. I’m not even sure how long this is going to set up fully. Regardless, it sets me back a day or two or three. But I’ve got my own version of the LaBrea tar pits happening in my garage. Lots of bugs are finding their demise in my gloss coat.
I thought SurfSource.net sent me the wrong stuff. Nope, it was my fault. I checked my email receipt.
Howzit gunkie, After that long of a wait for the resin to kick I’d say most of it has drained off the board and the chances of hitting the weave during rub out are pretty high. Think about sanding it and reglossing. What kind of gloosing resin did you use,Silmar or Rheichold? The gloss I shot yesterday only took about 10 mins to kick and that’s what you want for a time frame.Aloha,Kokua

Silmar.
I didn’t use enough catalyst because I thought I was using sun cure. With sun cure I put 0.5% catalyst in and wait for the very first signs of gel, maybe 10 minutes. I then take it out into the sun for a few seconds, bring it back into the shade, peel the tape, and then bring it back into the sun for a few minutes until it is totally cured. It seems to be finally set [24 hours], but you’re right, I think I should sand it and re-gloss coat. Thanks for the tips!
Howzit gunkie, I personally don't think glossing resin should be used with UV catalyst, but then again I'm old school and feel the same way about using UV for hot coats. Aloha,Kokua
