Am I Sensitized?

Hello epoxy experts. The last few times I’ve mixed a batch of RR, I’ve noticed that my eyes get really irritated. One eye in particular gets dry and itchy and what not. This bums me out and causes me to wonder: am I on the path to sensitisization. Are my glassing days over? By the way, this occurs even when I’m wearing my full face respirator.

thanks,

hunter

Are you wearing latex gloves? I sometimes get eye irritation from the talc in the gloves…y’know when youre glassin and you get that uber itch that makes you rip your epoxy covered gloves off and itch?..but you have that talc all over your hands and it stings like a mother!!!

Do you have red hair, freckles, sunburn real easy or of celtic origin? If so then your sensitised.

After over 20yrs using epoxy I’m not, but I have observed that the above body types just can’t use epoxy.

Boardbumps

Hmm, I don’t think I fall into any of those categories. I also wear vinyl gloves.

Perhaps its the additive F that is irritating my eyes. I think I’ll try a batch without it to see.

Do the Additive F test and see.

I have read a few MSDS and med studies and Xylene (main part o add ‘f’) does irritate the eyes and nose. I have had an itchy nose for a day or so after using it in poorly ventilated area.

I read a study on epoxy affects and there were eye/nose irritation and sensitisations reported, but usually with the more ‘harmful’ epoxy and mostly in construction workers sealing concrete tunnels, where the resin was heated up to fairly high temps, I guess creating more vapours.

Good luck.

I just think you’re a highly sensitive Metro panty waste who wont answer challenges thrown down.

Either come out for a good ol’ fashioned a$$ whoopin’, or quit crying about the time you watched the note book and it touched you in places nothing has touched before…

black ops… out.

.

hahahahahaha! I’m afraid you’ve confused me with dr. hill.

Seriously Allan… why did you have to bring ‘The Notebook’ into this?

As mentioned in previous thread, I’m not a real doctor but here’s a possible fix. Maybe. Take lots of lots of lots of vitamin C for a few hours before glassing and few hours after. Read up on bowel tolerance. High dose vit c can stop allergic reactions and colds and do all sorts of magic. Among other effects it bumps up cellular glutathione which is a rate limiting chem in most detox pathways in your body. Careful not to take TOO much as you could have to dash to the toilet in the middle of a lamination.

And do check the F connection. If you can isolate a single problem and avoid that its good as being in inflammatory state can make you more likely to get sensitized to other things.
