As you mentioned in your post; not only are the other manufacturers going to have to scramble to make up the numbers with regard to quanity, but they have a ways to go to measure up to the quality and variety of Clark Foam. For instance I quit “carving” rocker into my boards a few years ago when I realized I could special order a Clark blank that in most cases suited my needs as a shaper and my customers needs as a surfer. I could get almost any stringer configuration that I wanted. Anything I wanted to pay for, by the foot. Man I’m telling you guys. Think about it for a minute; 10’1Y,9’1y all the R’s, the 10’5 Stewart these are FANTASTIC blanks. Clark was able to get the best of the Industry to contribute R and D, designing and shaping Plugs. In my mind THIS is his greatest achievment. If any of you are thinking about setting up a foam operation or any current manufacturers are reading any of this stuff. Get your hands on some of the afore mentioned blanks and use them to make your molds. Because THAT is the standard you need to rise to. Lowel

Louis, there are lots of contributions that non Aussie, American, HI, etc have given to surfing. And they should be recognized.
But your post also puts you in same boat as “american mentality” you describe. Belittling the plight of others to put your agenda in the forefront is not good. That’s like putting someone else down so you look cool.

No one has the right to say they are ‘better’ or more ‘right / correct / center’ than anyone else. But to forget to give credit where credit is due is taking authority where it is not given and saying ‘we’re better, we did it.’
Remember the surf world foundation was heavily influenced and built upon what Clark did. Polynesians, South Pacific Islands, Hawaii, Australia and America formed the very foundation you and all of us stand upon.
Brazil makes their blanks mainly because Clark opened that door for them.
Of course many take things for granted . . . take that away, that foundation is gone, there would be no swaylocks to gather information, no experts or shapers to show you the way.
You’d have a bad case of amnesia and wouldn’t know where to go (in regards to surfing). You wouldn’t even be surfing because in your mind it doesn’t exist.
Shoot, Christians have known about Jesus walking on water for 2000 years. In some translations the event is described in waves and close to the shore. Even in one of the books on Acts of the Apostles it shows a ship that broke on a sandbar or a reef and people rode boards, or swam to shore amidst the waves. It says somewhere in the Bible God is known for treading upon the sea crests.
But they never thought of surfing, even though the evidence was staring them in the face. God gave that gift to someone else, and Cook ran into it. Only God knows the wisdom behind that decision.
So remember where it all came from, for that helps you to understand your place. Once you understand your position, you can change it or keep on course.
