once or twice a year we get a big enough swell that it comes in our inlet and rolls down the river to a inland beach we call the fishermans cove.it usually only breaks at low tide for an hour or so.in the new jersey winter one of my first years of surfing the cove got perfect.i got my wintersuit on and was ready to paddle out alone.a man named carl danish, one of our best longboarders showed up,i asked if he was gonna paddle out with me.he said no,he had something really important he had to do. i was surfing fifteen minutes and out paddles carl.i was suprised and said “carl i thought you had something really important to do”.his response was simple and classic carl.“ron if your gonna learn to be a surfer, you have to learn to be more irresponsible”. with all the talk of war and terrorism i try to keep my life simple. family, friends, play.

Is this break between Longport and OC?

Is this break between Longport and OC? is long port in n.j.?? i’m talking central jersey. i won’t be on line till mon a.m. leaving work now,not online at home. waves are a couple feet overhead. enjoy.

Longport is the southern end of Absecon Island which is the island Atlantic City is on. When I was in high school, late 60’s, when the ocean was huge the waves would roll in the inlet between Longport and Ocean City and break at the mouth of a small stream that came into the bay. It was rare but it was almost like a point break, they were rights across the mouth of the stream, you had to kick out before you hit a big mud bank. The bridge over the stream was replaced awhile back and I haven’t seen it break in years, although it still might.

No, the break you are referring to is on the north side of AC. It’s between AC and Brigantine. The break I am referring to is on the south end of the island and rarely breaks.
