“This condition has resulted in some of the coolest seawater temperatures during the month of September since records have been kept (1976) at the Diablo Canyon Ocean Lab. The mean seawater temperature for September is 57.52 degrees, this September the mean was 53.92 degrees.” What is it down south… 70 degrees? I don’t even want to know about Hawaii!
John, We had a couple of weeks up here in August when the water was feeling pretty warm. I was beginning to really believe the talk about el nino (my first el nino here in SF during the fall winter of 95 -96 (it think it was those years) – the water up here got into the downright balmy mid-60’s. But this year since sept rolled in it’s been downright chilly. This week has been especially so with an abundance of n - ne winds. Mike

Its been normal here in Hawaii. I dont measure the ocean temps or check on them, but I havent felt anything out of the ordinary.
Its been normal here in Hawaii. Water was about 82 deg. Here in SC the water’s cooled off a bit since we’ve been having some strong winds (upwelling)but feels about normal(no freezing cold)for this time of year. Was spretty comfortable for a while in August(at least in relative terms for SC). This time of year the least of our worries is the water temp given the possible increase of the number of critters with big teeth.
