I don’t care…

From almost missing his first heat (they held it up because he missed his connecting flight) to winning is a very big deal. Andy is great competitor.

Most people don’t care. True enough.

But the guys who “raised” Kelly keep their computers on for the whole tour. And they can tell you last wave score during each heat. Says something about how to produce a world champ. Unselfish behavior. Tireless dedication. These guys really do care. Kelly still draws strength from them.

Matt Kechele and Bruce Walker are the real deal.

I’m sure Andy has his support system too. As do the Australians.

I used to go to the race track. I didn’t pick horses, nor did I pick jockeys, I picked based on trainers.

Know your trainers.

So if anyone is reading this and thinking how do I get a team going start by being a good trainer.

I got tips from Bruce. Interestingly, when I was able to get my guys to listen, not the easiest thing to do on comp day with adrenaline pumping, they did good. When they took off on their own having had a good first heat, they did not.

It is very difficult to get guys to realize how important teamwork is. Teamwork between trainer/coach and competitor.

Now some purists may say it’s bad having trainers and coaches. I say that’s crazy talk. And there is so much wrong with that attitude all I can say to them is good luck with that. Because they already have too many issues to be coacheable. It takes a very high level of intelligence to be coachable. To be able to handle constructive criticism and to ignore critics and to be able to know the difference.

Which brings us to the first rule of horse training, pick your horse well.

One look at the picture of Kelly pouring a Fosters into Andy’s trophy tells us all we need to know. There is nothing shallow or fake going on there. These guys have heart.

This year we have a fight to the finish and that is good for the sport. We are going to see some good surfing. So be stoked.

Does anyone know what board Andy switched to?

Slater is a class guy!

But I still don’t care

Drew

Thanks for sharing, Drew. It’s real important that we all know that you don’t care. Although why anyone bothers to share that useless information I have no idea. It’s just negative information as such. Basically worthless.

You always do this to me. Did someone piss in your cheerios this morning and you feel a need to blame me, or is it a dirty Jersey thing?

Next time you want to make me feel great don’t bother. It ain’t working. And it doesn’t give you more soul in my eyes. It just leaves me cold.

Oh c’mon Mark, I agreed with you on Slater

Jersey Rocks mang!

In fact I’m from Jersey!

Which makes me care even less about pro surfing.
