Annual Tudor Pipeline Post *PIC*

Another photo of Joel, this time riding his 2003 Pipe equipment. As usual, it’s not your standard issue pro surfboard. Round pin tail, extra width up front, volume. The foil is a bit more modern than his previous contest boards. Thinned out nose and tail. Don’t know about the shaper. Feel free to discuss if you give a rat’s ass.

It’s a Randy French Surtech. Welcome Joel

thanks for almost making me fall out of my chair stubiles- MUch needed this time of year-- got the inlaws comin then off to the mountains, have you been yet this year-- S.A. (what a summer huh)

People wonder why Tudor rips Pipe. It’s because he gets in early on good equipment. I often ponder why anyone is riding high performance equipment there, because the whole point of Pipe is to get barreled. I learned the hard way that I should have used more board on the North Shore. I started with the same crap I thought the pros were riding. They were, in fact, riding, skinny, narrow high performance guns, but they are skinny, narrow, high performance guys. I am not. I am 190, and can’t ride that stuff. I finally (after several ass-thumping reef introductions) started riding a real board. It was a 7,2 that was thick (the naked airbrushed mermaid was a bonus). It caught waves early and was fun. I finally was able to ride some decent waves. Before that it was drop, stop, and roll. And that reef hurt a lot. I went home, after five days, with tons of bruises, mostly on me arse. Somehow, I am lucky enough not to go head first like others. I guess my fat head makes me bottom heavy. The fat helps my head stay up. I like my boards like I like breasts: Big, round, full, heavy, and smoooooooth. No sanded finishes. [smile] Tudor is a good surfer. He rips on anything anywhere. Watch him rip a fish in the video Longboard Fever. He is amazing. Just pure style.
