Here is a more specific longboard fin placement question. I’ve shaped a 7’6" mini-mal “type” (similar, still has the full nose), and I’m installing a 6.5" center with an 8" fin box, 2 smaller future “longboard side fins”. I will install the futures before lamination and then rout the larger finbox after hot coat…IS THIS the right sequence? Anyways, if anyone has a few rough suggestion for fin placement, that would be great. Thanks, Canuk
I think F/U offers their finbox to be installed before glassing, and a different finbox that can be installed after. Installation before, with glass overlapping the top box border up to the grind-off lip, is stronger. http://www.blakestah.com/fins/

Actually, maybe that is the O’Fish’l box that accepts a Bahne finbox fin and installs before glass. Canuk, you’re right, Futures first, then F/U after hotcoat. Fin placement will depend upon template, rocker, rail volume, etc. Did you model your board after another that you could reference? Here’s just a guess, center fin up 7-3/4 (centered in box) and side bites up 14" and 1-3/8" in from the rail pointed about 1" off the nose (We use long straight edges for this but string or tape will suffice).
Thanks for the input. I will attempt to reference to a similar board, but those tips are helpful. Thanks
