Another one bites the dust!

I first met Mike Marshall in 1963, at the old Sea View Inn in Haliewa, when he was sanding boards for Surfboards Hawaii.    He was a skilled surfer, in waves of consequence, and had a great sense of humor.    I lost track of him for many years, and reconnected with him at the Velzy Memorial.    Sadly Mike passed away this weekend.   He was an ardent supporter of the Surfing Heritage Foundation, and I would see him frequently at various of their functions.   The old guard is slipping away, and surfing history with them.  I hope there are some of you out there that knew him as well, and also have fond memories of, and shared experiences with him.

Sorry to hear of the loss - thanks for sharing that.  We can all benefit from reflecting on the good people we still have with us today, and letting them know how we feel.  Surfing has a colorful cast in its heritage halls, for sure.

Mike Marshall was a great friend and an the best person you could ever meet!

please visit the http://www.surfingheritage.org/ in person!
Mike and Sharon Marshall really love the SHF and so should you :-)
Mike knew so so much about surfing history and could tell you everything about everything under that roof.

Did Mike work for Rich at one time?

Yes,

Mike worked for Rich,

Mike is heavly credited for the The Trestle Special and had his hands in the Harbour Cheater as well.

Howzit Bill, Never knew him but am sorry of his passing. But the Sea View Inn had the best shrimp tempura and other great food on the menu. Aloha,Kokua

Sorry to hear that Bill. It seems among all the inovations these days, this is also a sad era. So many of the elders and pioneers of the sport are fading away. They will not be forgotten. I just hope the hot-shot up and commers are aware of all the contributions and sacrifices by people like this that have dedicated themselves to a life of poverty for the sport they love so much.

He will be missed. I hope people realize how much.
