Another rabbit's Foot Attempt

Well after viewing many Lovelace and Burch videos on the subject and seeing Sk8ments stellar effort i decided to have a bash at one myself.  So, mine is about 5’6 and about 22 inches wide. Just have to glass the deckside and finish her up and away we go…Have to say though gave me a bit of a headache working it all out…sort of like a complex math problem and Im not entirely sure i didnt over do the hull !!!..I’m happy with it though. Oh yeah I liked using the vector net…no problems at all even without the vac bag.

Cheers

YYYYEEEEEWWWWWW!!!

How did the funky glass on the bottom go? im thinking of using it on a EPS blank, made up from some light weight block foam.

I want to make another one, ans i think it will be less inner rail channel than the the last one and a matching channel on the other side.

nice man

Sk8: Well after reading the different entries her on Sways about the difficulites encountered with VectorNet I didnt actually experience any really…The stuff I got was flat weave and so didnt affect the glass at all and draped over the rails and the channeling like a dream. Glassing the bottom did require a bit of baby sitting even with the KK resin I used but in the end i found that if i precoated the hull and left it to gel a little then wrapping the difficult channels or sharp angles was much less of a hassle…I then just laminated over the net with 6 0z and did the laps.

I’ve also got some really good spray adhesive which is designed to be used with Epoxy which is great as it allows you to temporarily “place” or position difficult fabric (carbon, thick glass etc) in difficult places while you wet out glass or prepare it for a bag. It also doesnt show and leaves no glue stain.

All good … will be sorting out the deck tomorrow so will post more then…Hopefullly, ill be able to ride it soon.

??? whats happening champ?

Great work!

Yo,

I glassed the deck yesterday and that came out nicely…a few bubbles (which is slightly annoying) but I know why they happened so I’ll know for next time. Anyway I laid it up with a 4oz and 6oz  lam both full deck and as such I reckon it’ll be pretty sturdy. However, it absolutely drank up the KK epoxy (450ml) which i was pretty surprised about but it’s still light regardless. I reckon with the Vectornet I could glass the deck with a just a 6 oz and a 40z patch judging by the the hull side lamination which is very tough indeed. Anyway, I’m going to let it cure for a couple of days and then I’ll sand it back and finish her off. We’ve got some kind of wave due over the weekend so at least i’ll get a chance to have a burn on it…

However, I now have an addiction to Asymms and just shaped a bellyboard (in XPS) (a bit of Brink and a bit Ekstrom) so that’s gonna get a glassing later today…I’ll go with the lighter lamination schedule for that as the XPS i’ve got is super tough.

I’ve got WAAAAAY to many ideas for these things and should really get back to my real job !!!

Cheers
