Jr had a kook ditch his board and hit him yesterday. He didn’t realize there was damage til he got home. Its a brand spanking new board. He’s got a shallow dent about 2 feet long on the bottom that is 1" wide and at most 1/8" deep. There is a tiny shatter at the very beginning but otherwise no damage to the glass. I hit it with the heat gun last night and it came up a little. Should I fix the shatter give it a couple coats of acrylic and leave it go at that or cut / fill / re-glass the 2 foot long dent? If it was an older board I wouldn’t care but this one is fresh off the racks.
Last time I experinced the same I ground out the crack, keyed up the dent And payed in a narrow couple of strips of 4 oz in to bring up the level before hot coating but my hot coat was mixed from an old tin of resin that was thickening so I had no problem with it flowing out due to rocker. It was a clear bottom so a quick flash with a couple of slightly differing whites from rattle cans hid the repair perfect. Cheers rich www.thirdshade.com
I always fill those type dings with glass too, easy to do, strong, waterproof, and pretty much disappear when finished.
Thanks guys, I will fill and re hot coat the bottom & sand this weekend. Perhaps I’ll use it as an excuse to make another one and throw this one once fixed on the used rack at the local shop.
