Beery here’s a slight variation off the original design with the channels flowing off the step to “wet your whistle”.Unfortunately i’ve caused the laminators and sanders at the factory to have endless nightmares about this specific design.
very interested in this design but have only heard a few reports about their performance and they havent been great, they have said that the board has alot goin on and not an easy board to master…and lets face it, Tommy could ride anything at all…so can you guys who shape and ride them please give me some honest info on how they perform and why ? also a little bit of theory about the design would be much appreciated…I have plans to shape one one day but just wanna get more info so I can shape with a little more confidence and belief in the functional benefits of this design…I can never shape something with passion unless I truly believe it has some real benefits to performance… lookin forward to hearing any info from you guys…MP
I got one 2nd hand ( thanks BF for the tip ) but havent ridden it yet, got a few other new shapes but plan on surfing it real soon...anyone got any info on the theory behind the design ???

hi mark
i just noticed this thread
5’7 x 19 -20 x 2 1/4 rings a bell
there is footage on either "beyond the boundaries and /or "feral kingdom " of the boards in question [as well as
'searching for tom curren" too, from memory ??
hope this helps ?
a mate of mine brought one from ross quite a few years ago , i’ll see if i can get in touch with him for you
cheers
ben
Yep, Beyond the Boundaries has the best footage of that session.
I would imagine there’s a clip on youtube somewhere if you can’t find the VHS version.
cheers guys... will do a bit of a search...my interest is still there but just got a few other designs on the go ATM so just doin a bit of research before possibly dabbling with my version of this design...not to copy but to quench my own warped curiosity in all things alternative and different in board design...
Dude I have a crew of guys that only ride these things. They all live in CostaRica they ride INSANE who said they don’t??? Someone who has never ridden probably!!! Its morning I’ll post one after I have my Kona Coffee.
THe water flows off the step creating an air pocket under your center of gravity .It shortens your board the channels put the drive back in.I have made over 50 of them if not more. Don’t put the step too close to the fins.22" up is the go for the 6’0" range and 21 " up for 5’8" is what I have found that works.
Are you from the Gong?I spent a month down there in 1987 and stayed with Terry Richardson RICHO.I beat your beer drinking champion in a showdown made him barf and fall.We whipped out the beer bong and that did him in.The Gong is sooooo cool.I’ll post my fireball soon I make them all the time.
This is a 5’2" x 20" x 2 3/8" looks a bit stubby…the guys in Costa Rica can’t get enough of them.Gotta have V in the tail it’s a must!!!
Your gonna get the step cut on a computer??? I can bust out a step bottom in less than 15 minutes.WITH 6 channels.LAZY!
So funny you rip on our Gemini yet you make a step bottom.Let me tell you something your a copier you have no Imagination get some!!!Make your own designs then you can attack me.Until then STFU bitch
Awesome pics mate. Not sure what the last post means, but those boards look sweet!
I have Oneula’s Bushman fish at my house. His is 6’2" and seems rather thin by my current standards. No channels, and it has a long box for the center fin with 2 glassed on side fins.
I rode it in one of the biggest swells to hit the south shore in the last 15 to 20 years. At the time I lived across the street from Ala Moana Beach Park and used to go out in the dark just before sunrise. The day before the surf was about head high to slightly overhead so I figured I’d get some waves before the dawn patrol hit. When I got out to the waves I knew something was weird because the water was so alive. That day was double overhead on the small waves and most sets were closing out. It was one of those days when courts and big lefts becomes a huge close out. You have to be lucky and catch the sets that double up and barrel through the middle before closing out.
I only managed to catch 3 waves that day in 2 hours. The rest of the time was spent paddling, and duck diving. When I got home I saw the Coast Guard going around and chasing everyone out of the water. The park was closed out for 4 or 5 days. Somewhere I have slides and video of the waves breaking and closing out the channel way outside the bouys at Ala Mo.
have ridden my 6'5" Tom Peterson fireball and it didnt work for me at all...I ride alot of different boards and I can adapt to anything...it went but I didnt feel any performance benefit or any feeling that I really enjoyed, it slipped when I tried to drive and it lacked flow and speed...I was a bit sad coz I have wanted one of these for a long time and had hoped that some Peterson magic was in this board but to be totally honest, dont know if I'll ride it ever again...Sorry if this feedback offends lovers of the design but I have to be honest and give a true report on my experience on the shape...I'll keep the board and like the fact that it is different but cant give anything positive about the performance of this one......unfortunately.....,

I have a whole clientele who swear by these boards. They all feel the step and they are so fast that I have had some of my customers leave over 3,4 and 5 messages on my phone. That sucks that the board didn’t work, but How old is that board?, You may be comparing it to new technology Remember that board was made in the 90’s.I wish I could hand you one over the internet right now.Oh well If that 6’5" does not have a single concave under the front foot that could be the culprit and the lack of a dramatic step.I took two step bottom shapers ideas and combined them Aipa and Peterson.Hope this lends some insight.and hope.for another try for you to be a believer.
Here is the bottom!!
