Any stringerless acolytes out there ? Help w/ glassing sched?

Just wondered if anyone had pics and story about their stringerless EPS boards, and some hints on glassing schedule for 3" thick 6’ish boards with about 22" of width, a kind of squashtailed quad modern fish/Flyer thing, and this

below

(it’s more foiled in the round end)

(will probably have a 10.5 inch box in each end, some may recall)

6 6 4 will still pressure dent on 2 pound foam

but only just(like from a knee)

i was gunna try 4444 deck

44 bottom

or maybe 444 deck with a patch

20 ounce deck wont dent acorrding to Greg Loehr

i think stringer is optional for stength reasons

I guess I was thinking 664 for the deck. 6 bottom, maybe +4.

Seems like KenZ told me 66 was all right for the deck stringerless, and 6 bottom…

Thought Greg Loehr was his source for that

(Hi Paul–thanks for feeding back–any projects in the works?)

On a board that I added length and width too, the center addition was eps was covered with 2 layers 6 oz S cloth and epoxy. Every time I stood up I could feel it flex down as I pushed up. Very soft. 2 layers of 6 oz won’t cut it unless maybe your a fly weight.

yeah, but, its only 6 ft and a full 3 inches thick. I don’t think it will flex much. On my 2 lb EPS with 2X6oz, I don’t get much denting at all. Very slight. Add a 4 oz deck patch if you want, it will help in minimizing the fill coat too.

hey janklow

yeah i do actually

got a 7 6 compsand in the bag right now

got the deposit money for that and will use it to build a permenent adjustable rocker table and hotbox

that sounds great hey “hotbox” :}

ripped the balsa skins off my first ever compsand mal

and will use them again on a new shorty thrustmeister ive shaped

did a few hybrid designs in aps3000 for friend of 7 6 order

this ones intended to be a quad.

disregard the slices and fins .

and have a spitzer inspired eps stringers quad waiting to be glassed

finally ordered some silane cloth

its 3oz or 100 gram

its a lovely tight weave

i find 6oz shite

and would rather build up extra layers of four or three

rather than chasing pinholes etc.

664 is plenty strong btw. make sure you do the outer lam with the 4oz

the fellow that ordered the 7 6

used to own and shape in a taranaki surfboard factory

so thats a good compliment aye

waiting for feedback on the new fcs hdfoam insert system

not sure if its available in NZ yet

thats the one thing that turns me off about eps boards(besides tha fact it sucks water)

cant see fcs being a strong enough system without the foam inserts

not only that it isolates the eps from possible water intrusion

makes for a far more durable board dont you think!

ive made up some for the quad but they are kinda piss yellow colour

i think the fcs ones might be white roahcell or something

stoped using additives in my resin and finding it simpler and hassle free way

just playing it straight

for a gloss i can a use a smudge layer of resin on the board and wait til tacky then aplly final resin coat

seems to stop fisheyes

but actually have a found a brushable two pack waiting on delivery

the local hardware is selling ryobi polisher/sanders for 130$nz

so i cant wait to score one of them

gloss coats here we come!!!

assuming #2 eps, 444 deck 44 bottom stiff epoxy (RR2K)

Thank you people. I’ll be able to figure this out I guess. Good 3 layers deck is necessary for FCS integrity. Paul, couldn’t figure your FCS concern, but 2 layers bottom and 3 or 4 top should be strong, and the 2lb EPS will hold cores for the resin columns.

The Ofish’l fin boxes are getting glassing as above with (what size?) patch inserts lapping out on the sides (and front/rear?)…

Thanks again boys

edit: Oh got it, FCS has a new HD foam plug–gonna go see… good stuff boys
