Anybody knows the fin set-up for the MR Super Twin ?

Anybody knows the fin set-up for a 6’2 till 6’6 MR Super Twin ?

Positioning ?

Cant ?

Toe ?

thanks

I’d call MR (AUS) or Matt Biolos (US) and just ask. I’m sure they would send you their whole library of specs.

… or just run down to any retailer with your tape measure

Good Luck

Hi Kendall

Called LOST

they gave me some number too, just one i cant figure out

side fins parallel to each other

10 3/4 off tail, and 1 1/4 off rail

rear fin 5 1/2 off tail and 1 5/8 …??

What is that 1 5/8 number for?

Do you know?

Cheers again

Wouter

I have no idea. 5-1/2" off the tail seems really far forward. I just measured the setup on my Stewart S-Railed fish:

The side fins on this board are 11" off the tail with 1/4" toe-in. The rear fin is 3-3/8" off the tail or 2" off the crack. This board works like a charm. Unfortunately it suffered a horrible death in the back of my car. Stewart has a new one waiting for me down south.

Maybe the 5-1/2" is the front edge of the fin, and the 1-5/8" is the back edge from the crack??? You can get the Super Twin with glass-on side fins or FCS plugs. I think the trailing fin is always FCS. My Futrues trailing fin’s base is 3"… so that would put the leading edge at 5" forward of the crack.

Thanks Kendall

works like a charm???

sounds good

when are you going to pick up the new one?

what is the length of this Stewart pictured here?

Looks quite like the one i drew up., just a bit more width in the nose

what is your weight?

Cheers

Wouter

This board is (was) so fun. Bill Stewart told me this is the most fun board he makes. We weigh about the same - 190lbs, so I got one just like his. It’s 6’4" x 20-1/2" x 2-1/2" with “S” rails in the back third of the board that get really thin out the tail. These photos may help:

The board is (was) really light. It’s EPS/Epoxy. It’s done a great job of resisting dings, but I left it in my car - in a sock, with the windows and sunroof open - and it got too hot and delaminated… like the whole bottom. The new one should be ready about now. It will be a couple weeks before I get down to pick it up.

Normally I’d order a board like this with more thickness, but these dimensions seem perfect for me. It had been a while since I’d ridden fish. The first few times out on this board were frustrating. I felt like the board bogged, and let the waves pass us by. I was trying to surf it off my back foot, like I do on a thruster. On my third day out… on my third wave of the day… I moved up about three inches and started driving with my front foot… all of a sudden, the board turned on. I was flying through sections and floating over whitewash once I started riding it more like I ride a skateboard. I can’t wait to get the new one.

Looking good indeed.

Can you tell me the width by stringermeasurement 1 ft ONose?

And does it have a tucked under edge all along?

Low radius rails in the middle?

Looks like a great board, I hope you get it soon.

All the best!

Wouter

This board is 14" @ 1’ off the nose, and 15-1/2" @ 1’ off the tail. The rails are fairly tucked all along, and get harder starting from about the mid-point back. The S-Rails kick into action around the mid=point and get really thin and hard starteing at the front edge of the side fins.

I can’t wait to get my new one. I didn’t even know I needed this board before I got it. Now that I don’t have it, I feel like I can’t live without it.

Here’s some shots from Stewart:

While I’m waiting to get my new S-Railed Fish, this new board will fill in the gap. It’s a Michel Junod (in the photo) quad with a modern tail, and retro beak nose. I’ve only ridden it once - in crappy conditions - but it seems like it’s super fast:

Kendall,

Did you pick it up yet, and how does the latest surf? What are its contours on the bottom?

Cheers

Wouter

Hi Wouter… I picked it up, and it’s bitchen. Same dimensions as my last one… just red fade instead of blue. Unfortunately I haven’t even waxed it yet… after months and months. For the last couple years I’ve been riding Brewers and Lindens almost exclusively. My daily “go-to” board is my 9’2" Brewer longboard. I’ve got a few of those - the original was RB’s personal board for about five years… and I’ve got a couple copies that were ghost-shaped by Michel Junod. That’s what I ride about 70% of the time these days.

I usually throw a shortboard in my truck as a backup. After my last experience with EPS/Epoxy and the inside of a car… I hesitate to make that shortboard the Stewart. I don’t want it to end up like the last one. My poly boards seem to fair OK if I leave them unattended.

What a pity…!

Have somebody install a Gore Tex Vent and you can be a worry free EPS man…

Wouter

Gary Linden and Dick Brewer are going to be shaping some twins over the next couple weeks. We’re making a real old-school MR style twin, an old-school Linden/Brewer style twin, and a modern performance twin. All will be available in the model line in a few months.

Kendall, Wouter,

Not to hijack this thread, but how hot does it need to get for an epoxy/EPS board to delam? Last weekend it was really hot here in So Cal and I left my new board in the car while I grabbed a quick lunch (like 15 minutes with the windows down). When I cam back the epoxy was a slightly different color where it had been sitting in the sun and now I’m worried about heat/UV sensitivity.

Thanks,

C

My Stewart delamed when I left it in my car, in a sock, with the windows open, for a few hours when it was about 90* outside.

I got a bubble that was about two feet in diameter, plus about a hundred little bubbles all over the bottom of my board.

Thanks, Kendall. That’s a sweeeeet looking board. A lot of speed I bet. How does it handle size?

I like to shape thicker, shorter boards so they fit in my car’s trunk but I might rule out epoxy/EPS if delams will be the result of warm weather.

Take care!

C

I’ve had my Stewart (the old one) out in double-O juicy SF surf. The first couple waves I felt like the board couldn’t keep up and kinda ate it over the falls. On the third wave, I stepped forward about three inches and started surfing more off my front foot. That’s when the board came alive. When I rode it more like a skateboard the thing just ripped. No problems keeping up and making sections.

The Junod has been out a few times, and it’s really fast. It doesn’t seem to like anything under head high, and it likes steeper faster waves.

Both boards deserve more water time. Both were custom made for me by great shapers that also rip. If I didn’t have so damn many boards they wouldn’t be collecting dust in my garage.
