A friend just gave me an old 60's longboard. It is the classic looking board with Volan cloth and a gigantic redwood fin. I would like to restore it. The label on the bottom say's "Sportflite". Does anyone know about this particular brand of board?
a brand sold at "Sears and other fine stores " during the surfing boom of the 60’s —tended to be solid colors and heavy…made somewhere in california --considerred popouts, but something to start with…i haven’t seen one in 35+ years, i thought they were all in the landfills…
That is exactly where this one was headed. It is in really good shape considering it had been used for target practice! Looks to be a nice solid restoration project.
Leslie,
Do it as a labor of love project, because even if it was in good condition it doesn’t fetch much money for the amount of labor envolved. A good condition one is worth about $400.$500 at best.
