anyone made their own bag clamps with PVC pipe?

or know where to find Bert's explanation of how to make 'em?

i'm thinking 2" PVC with about 25% - 30% cut away on the table saw, deburr the edges, ?...

Did it. Didn't work. Got mastic tape, That worked.

Karl

I've heard of using aluminum 'U' channel and rubber tubing.  Fit the bag in to the channel.  Squeeze the rubber tubing in on top of the bag.

choose your battles. ordering them online saves time and money. I own no stock in ACP, for the record.

aloaf’s advice is correct. he turned me on to them. pick and choose your battles wisely.

yes i succeeded in making them worl

what works are 1/2 to 2/3 inch diameter yellow electricity pipes. They are pretty soft, which is what you want: deformation.

You have to cut one pipe lengthwise and divide it 40/60.

Then you get that cheap yellow tape that we all use and dress the outside of your closed pipe

Then stick em together.

I went through a range of pipes before i found the one that works, so i guess you will have to too.

What are you making then? Some T-flex? A Compsand?

Good luck, if i have the time, ill take picture and post it.

Any pics?? sounds interesting.

Contact Surf4fins....He ordered some clamps online and our vac bagging got much better.....

Karl: thanks, i'll look into the mastic. i think i remember Paul Cannon saying he was a fan of that stuff.

John: that sounds doable too. have you seen this?: http://www.joewoodworker.com/veneering/clamps.htm

afoaf / surfding: thanks. just what i needed.

wouter: "I went through a range of pipes before i found the one that works, so i guess you will have to too." ... that is what i'd like to avoid. seems like it's best to just order some. i will be doing some T-Flex builds.

Ray: yah, that sounds like the go. i'll shoot him a PM.

thanks everybody

I’ve used the plastic pipe clamps from ACP and they’re a good option as well.

those are THE ones

I made my own bag clamp using 1/2 inch pvc pipe. I used a black rubber hose - i think heater hose- to fit inside the pvc pipe.

Help me though this, please.

You fold the bag and then clamp it?

Only one fold is enough?

I find that even the creases in the bag along the mastic tape are enough to let an annoying amount of air into the bag, so I’m struggling to see how secure the clamps are unless they are **really **tight fit?

I just buy them and focus on building boards.

hey Surfding,

do you get your stuff from Joewoodworker.com? in your pic, that looks like their valve stem assembly and their lock on vacuum connector...
