anyone shooting surfing with soloshot?

If anyone out there is looking into doing some surf photography I’d highly recommend one of the new SuperZoom cameras on the market.  My Sony HX300 is new a few years old and there are a couple new ones out there…these things are awesome.  Nikon now has one that blows mine away.  Thing has a built in 83x Optical zoom.  That’s the equivalent of a 2000mm lens!!!    http://www.nikonusa.com/en/Nikon-Products/Product/Compact-Digital-Cameras/COOLPIX-P900.html

I’ll second the super zoom aka bridge camera raves. I picked up a Canon SX50 a couple years ago and love it. They’ve since come out with a newer model.

 Shot freehand off the beach.

Huck,

If you would just come to SA at Plaskett creek then you are sure to be photographed by somebody.  Guess who this is…

I think this is far better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=53&v=3YLxGFLpOl0

" Disclaimer:  I received one recently as a gift and am slowly learning how to use it. "

… good on ya , John !

I look forwarsd to seeing your go pro shots soon !  go pros rock in experienced hands. A guy here gets shots with his that are out of this world good quality …people ask him all the trime what ‘DSLR’ camera he is using . Haaaa

'cos they make their waves look small!..

… waves are like penises, yours is always bigger in your imagination.

friend of mine has one… he has a video camera on his …  ya need to go in front of the thing and let it read you with the bracelet on…  so far he told me all he is getting is his head and the sky …    hard to dial in !!!

If anyone is on big island I love to take surf photo and video… I would do for super cheep for sways member…free if I can use pics too …aloha

Check out ‘lily’, latest self following drone camera.

That Lily camera shows a lot of promise, a waterproof drone makes a lot of sense. but it’s still not availible to the public as far as I can tell.

It’s not that I think there’s something wrong with gopros, they excell at what they are made for, but they are not made for nor are they of much use for long shots…

If you try to film a surfer from more than fifty feet or so  with a gopro they will appear as a tiny little dot on your screen (which is not the shot that I’m looking for), there is a reason that lenses of different focal lengths are made…

There is a lens adapter for the gopro which will allow you to use any c type lenses (they even have adapters for most major lens manufacturers)

If you happen to have an extra gopro sitting around this looks like a really cool gadget.

The problem with them (for me) is that the mods that are required to install this are extensive (You have to dismantle most of the camera and move the sensor)

And after the mods it is no longer able to fit in the watertight housing, which is the reason most of us got the gopro to begin with…
