i’m going next june. can anyone share any personal experiences? kirk
Surfed Sumbawa for 10 days in 1998; great island! Waves everyday with smallest day head high and biggest double overhead. Many different waves to choose from if you stay near Lakey peak. Lakey is a mini-pipeline (longer left, shorter right); Nungas is mini-G land; Periscopes is a hollow, bending, right point at high tide. I would highly recommend this area. Never made it to Desert Point, but the waves mentioned above are all world class. Food/Beer is cheap. Mosquitos not real bad, but malaria is endemic on Sumbawa and there is absolutely no medical care so be prepared. Have a great trip.
in what month were you there? i hear it gets windy the later in the year you go. kirk
in what month were you there? i hear it gets windy the later in the year > you go.>>> kirk Went later in the season, from early to mid September. No wind/weather problems and there were no significant crowds. Maybe 10 to 12 people out even when it was firing. Even Bali wasn’t crowded during this trip - 20 guys out at Ulu with solid 6 foot waves (faces 10 to 12 feet).
