I’ve only ever surfed indo from April - October (The dry season). What is the surf like over there in the wet season? Does padang padang ever work? What about Ulus?
Hi Everyone
Glad this question got posted....I too was planning a trip to Bali in early January next year. It might be my poor internet search skills but i couldn`t find any useful data. I noticed coastalwatch indo surf reports seemed to stop during this period. I take it that the rainy season just blows the wave out....has anyone surfed Kuta area this time of year...thanks in advance
Someone must have surfed Indo in the wet season?
I surfed Bali in Nov/Dec (over 20 years ago), only had w days flat in 6 weeks. Only had two big swells come through, but plenty smaller stuff. A few onshore days sent us round the East side (green ball etc), but mostly pretty good.
I surfed Indonesia this last March. I think it is somewhat of a transitional month, but conditions all around were great (surfing, diving, etc.) but shore specific (but not much rain that I recall at all).
Bali north was dead flat (but good for diving). But, I surfed the south shore of a different Indonesian island over the course of about 11 days. Waves started out (for the first couple of days) about shoulder to head high, then a significant swell hit and things went double and occassionally triple overhead briefly (over the course of 2 days, 3 of us broke 5 boards). Then, my last day or so, things went much smaller and according to reports I received from people that stayed longer than me, ultimately went mostly flat. Point being, I think March can be good or bad depending on luck. I think later months May - August (give or take) are more consistent and regularly show size (at least where I was at).
One thing that may or may not be important - surf where I was is apparently very much affected by moon phases, or so they tell you. Unless my experience was a coincidence, however, the moon did have a relatively huge effect on the tide and the reef exposure.
Surfed it twice in January before. The winds are onshore in Kuta and Ulu etc most of the time. Kuta beach was a trash can with heaps of plastic, gross. Surfed Nusa Dua and Sanur which is on the opposite side of the peninsula. Great uncrowded waves.
go to baliwaves.com and search for the gallery. They are listed by month of the year…to get an idea of what waves can be like for a particular month.
Thanks Oceanrider, Thats great - Found out what I needed to know, It looks pretty epic!
