Anyone used a Tom Wegener Model A

Hi Guys

Just wondered if anyone has got/used a Wegener Model A? I have been looking for a board that is easy to ride and have fun on, i am not the greatest surfer in the world and would like that kinda cruising laidback sort of ride (read into that lazy) and if i can learn a bit more on it then all the better. This is the 1st board that i would have bought in long long time and am a bit out of touch.

Oh it would be used in under chest high beach breaks in the UK.

Thanks for your help

Why not contact Chops Lascelle at Beachbeat surfboards (UK) and talk to him about what you’d like? You may find he has a second hand board which will work really well for you. Or he’ll be able to make a new one for you cheaper than a second hand Wegener.

The model A (in poly) second hand is going to be rare as rare as hens teeth and whilst at home on the points of Noosa may not be quite as versatile in a UK beachbreak.

I live near Tom and if I was going to ride any of his board models in beachbreaks it would be his egg model not the Model A.

I’ve got a 10’ pu Model A - goes unreal in the right waves.

As Cuttlefish said, it’s excels on the points, and that’s what I use it for these days - under head high point days…there are better choices for beachbreaks.

Thanks for the info. What would you guys recomend?

Ask yourself a few questions.

Does the Model A appeal cos you really want to ride a longboard properly - learn to noseride, drop knees or is it the wave catching ability that appeals?

If it’s the longboarding aspect that you’re after then get yourself a longboard with a bit more rocker than the Model A, but not necessarily a HP longboard - I find the Takayama DT2 a pretty versatile board in our beach break conditions. Still catches waves easily but is more manoeverable than a big log which is handy in beach break conditions. It can noseride too. Find a shaper and have a chat.

If it’s wave catching ability you’re after I’d give the longboard a miss. There are heaps of high volume 8 footers around which will allow you to cruise, but without the extra foot on the nose. The McCoy Nugget range is a good example (slight bias, but they work).

Or, just check out the guys at the local break. See what they’re riding and what works and what fits in with where you want to take your surfing.
