Anyone using a speed control?

such as http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/Displayitem.taf?itemnumber=43060

or similar, meaning something that isn’t built into the tool?

I have a Milwaukee 5535, single speed sander, it’s a beast, and I’d like to tone it down a bit for polishing and so on. Either I fit the parts from Milwaukee’s 5540, or I use an external unit. Ebay has several but not at HF price.

I did, at least until I bought a variable speed sander. They work fine. Don’t know about the el-cheapo model, my general rule is never to buy the absolute cheapest of anything… 2nd cheapest, maybe…

Speed controls are great.I have one the has a belt clip so you can dial as you go.I use them on routers and also a skil saw that I sometimes use to cut outlines on longboards. You can’t beat those old heavy aluminum tools built by American companies that actually cared about the products and built em to last. Not the case anymore I’m afraid. I have a Snap-On vari that goes from 0-2800, with a dial and variable trigger. It is so bitchin, I call it my power sanding block, it can be slowed down to barely moving, like a sanding block, but without all that elbow grease, love it
