I had hoped to get a test drive of the Tom Morey HP1 heater this past weekend while in San Diego. But, didn't work out and besides, there wasn't much to surf on. Bummer for me. Chuck at Morey Intl has a couple of boards (5-6 and 6-0) for demo and has offered to lend them for a test drive by a qualified and distinguished delegation of Swaylockians, to be determined. Nominate yourselves and if you undertake this mission, you will be doing your brothers a valuable service and have a little fun too. You will be expected to ride them hard, put them away wet and report back here with your impressions.
If you are up for this please PM me and I will get a few of you organized and let you have Chuck's cell number to make the arrangements. Let me have your email addresses and cell numbers as well and I will get an organizational email back to you and get you in touch with Chuck. Please be polite with him. I'd hate for him to get the impression we are a bunch of know it all loud mouth jerks who tend to run off the meek members and make girls cry. Just saying.
If this works, I'd like to see organized test drive teams do this with willing shapers and manufacturers in future. Who knows? This could turn into something. Or other.
Oh yeah, we probably need some kind of score sheet or template to provide a consistent comparison if we do get this off the ground for future boards.
Yes, someone please give an independant review of these heaters…
i was thinking of getting one but found out from Chuck that they were standard poly construction instead of the softy/polyethelene skinned ones like The One or Quad at CatchSurf. Would've loved to try one though the heater rail thing in the tail is intriguing, way different than his vacuum rails on the other boards. Supposed to reduce the effect of deck/tail drag. Suppose to also have the nose design of his Peck Penetrator longboards.
"Y" is so out of the box and doesn't give a sht and I love him for that. Really puts the whole surfing/wave riding thing into perspective in the complete opposite vein of someone serious like Greenough. Ekstrom on Acid… Not "More" just "Y" now… hahaha
He has a new thing called the super swizzle/skunk with soft rails hard center but those heaters really look fast in that beach break video.
in the process of trying to decide on a swizzle for travel/longboarding. Its between a 9'0 Morey Swizzle and a 9'6" Meyerhoffer right now. Figured I gotta honor Benny1's original Peanut he did years ago in the bamboo weave mat I sent him.
Nidacore stringer, Polypropelene foam core, Polyethelene skin, vacuum rails, with an hourglass figure to wrap your legs around or easily carress down to the beach… Now that's my kind of wave play companion…
The Heater looks likea fun board from The Videos it is insane fast.
A review by some sways people would be most welcomed. if you can take some photos of The rails that would also be great. Tom Morey does have an original mind.
I Have given thought to just ordering one of his longboards. Just do it on faith.
Looking closer at the few Photos of the Morey HP 1 heater It apears that he tail is thinned on the deck and bottom. hard to tell how the rail is configured behind the bump in the template The videos sure make that board look like it has terrific speed without a lot of input.
