Anything But Pop-Outs - Sept 29th Ortley Beach, NJ

2012 Anything But Pop-Outs
September 29th
Ortley Beach, NJ
On the beach at Surf Club

Formerly known as Anything But Three East

Shape it, buy it, borrow, bring it, show up and ride it, but don't bring a Pop-Out! We've changed the name to focus on handmade surf craft, so now you can bring your thrusters.

This is a gathering of alternative and handmade board riders and craftsman. Think of it as a hot rod show where you get to test drive the boards.

This is not a contest or a tradeshow. Participating surfboard companies should bring their shapers, glassers, sanders and team riders but leave the banners and sales reps at home. The event is free for all!

Big news for 2012

We have partnered with NJ SURF SHOW, a vendor show for local surf businesses. Surf Club in Ortley Beach has opened their doors to the ABP so we can use their facilities for the morning. After the ABP in the afternoon, head inside the Surf Club for the NJ Surf Show clam bake to see local surf brands and listen to local bands.

If shapers would like to set up a booth inside the Surf Club for the surf show to sell boards, there is a fee, but the ABP on the beach is FREE!

This is a great opportunity for a free event to meet shapers and try different boards and then a paid event to listen to local bands and see local brands! Shapers and visitors do not have to pay for the ABP on the beach. You only have to pay if you want to attend the afternoon clam bake and local bands inside the Surf Club.

This event is for both professional builders and backyard shapers to show off their work and surfers to try out their boards.

The NJ Surf Show after the ABP will be a huge event with bands, food, and clam bake.

Greenlight Surf Supply has generously donated prizes for the ABP.  Boards will be judged on several categories and prizes awarded during the after party at the NJ Surf Show.

…if you add: " …but CNC shaped boards" you ll finish with a really small % of boards; or only backyarders…

As far as I’m aware, not a single NJ shaper CNC’s their shapes… but I don’t really care if someone brings a CNC shape.  The event is not meant to be a pissing match arguement like most of the threads on Sways.  It’s about stoke over handmade boards made by stoked surfers.  Hope to see some of you positive attitude Swayers there!

Sounds like a fun event. There should be a number of Coils present that are neither molded, CNC’d, or hand shaped. Alien Technology for all to see!

oooo Mike!

Coils not hand shaped, what do you mean by that ? You use your hands to shape boards don’t you? Or your hands to operate machinery. Still too busy with backorders?

wouter

…if you think that s negative, you are too naif…

Im positive but tired of fool ness, anyway, I commented due to this sentence:  “…Shape it, buy it, borrow, bring it, show up and ride it, but don’t bring
a Pop-Out! We’ve changed the name to focus on handmade surf craft, so
now you can bring your thrusters.”

so if you think that CNC is not a pop uot or are a handmade item…well…

Im not saying that CNC boards are bad, Im talking that are not hanshaped like you say in your comment

Hey W, sure we use our hands, but it's not the same as conventional ''hand shaping''. You should know that we don't do anything the conventional way.

I've said too much, the aliens are going to be mad at me...

rdj, do you still have the board that showed the inner workings of Coil technology? We'll now return control of your thread (cue spooky music...)

Exactly the kind of logistical arguement and direction I don’t want this thread going.  I’m glad you’re positive and I too am tied of foolness, so we are in agreement.  On to positive stoke about Anything But Pop-outs!  :o)

Mike… no matter how many boards I shape or sell, they will have to pry both of my Mike Daniel Coils from cold dead hands!

I still got it.

Not a day goes by when I’m shaping in my shed that I don’t run through all the things you told me.  To this day I am still using the flexy block!  Not sure if you’ve seen this, but I gave you a well deserved shout out about two years ago on my blog.

We talked about shaping PU last time, but I’m doing mostly EPS these days.  One day hopefully I can pick your brain again.  I’m sure Sak probably offered already, but if you were to decide to take a road trip up to Jersey for the ABP you are very welcome to crash.

Thanks, rdj. I appreciate the offer to come up there also, but I'll probably still be busy digging out of hurricane rubble lol.

Bump for the local NJ / NY shapers who haven’t heard about thr ABP yet

ABP

yew! Always wanted to check out the NE US, and this is the perfect reason!

I’ll be there with a few things from my personal stash, hoping to get wet…

Hand “built” all by me…

Looking forward to meeting some of you, and sharing some waves!
