art on boards- wood, epoxy, and plastic?

so, i was making an alaia the other day and a friend of mine stopped by. she saw the board and asked if she could paint it. this brings me to my first question… what kind of paint for wood and does it go before or after the varnish?

the day after she left i looked over at my mini-mal and thought it looked kind of dull. what paint and sealer do you use on epoxy?

finally, i have a beater soft top surfboard for my little sister and was wondering can you paint and seal the bodyboard type bottom?

thanks for your input

ok so can i use this on my alaia and mini too?

This is probably an obvious solution but you could draw your artwork with pencil (which will wash off if you mess up) first and Sharpie over it. Just a tip if you use this method - trying to erase the pencil with an eraser will smear it and won’t actually erase it at all.

I have tried to draw on my Beater using paint pens and then sealing it with Krylon clear coat specifically for plastic but it did not work at all. Krylon says it should not crack and that it is flexible but the flexibility of the Beater makes it do so anyway. I have seen people simply use a regular Sharpie with no sealant and it seems to work fine and even stays on after skimming.

thats such a bummer :frowning: i don’t really wanna use sharpie because if i mess up im scared it wont come off. i like a little bit of wiggle room lol

Howzit coleye, I have sen lots of beaters that were turned into works of art but never asked what kind of paint was used since they had already been bought or were in a window for sale as I drove by. Can say this they were very shiny. Years ago a guy had a shop full right next tothe Kountry Kitchen in Kapaa on Kauai. Aloh,Kokua

PS I bet Ambrose could tell has the answer
