Artboard

I'm about to build a surfboard and want to put some artwork on the bottom of the board... What do you normally do for that? Like paint it on the foam or coloured resin?

That's a big question.  You can do either, but they are two very different mediums.  You should research posca pens also, which I believe are applied on top of the glass, but before the final resin coat (I've never used them).

I have painted foam with an airbrush and acrylic artists paint before glassing, I have painted wood boards with a brush and acrylic artists paint.  I have used resin tints, but not really for artwork per se, although a nicely tinted surfboard is a work of art in its own right, of course.

There are some good threads here that you should read through.

Also, you might want to look at the work of Nicholas Mirandon, a surfer / artist who has been using resin as a medium

Alright... that was very helpfull, thanks a bunch for the links/tips... and I'll look into the posca pens.

Thanks Again

Define Artwork...

How about a wood skin with a resin tint rail and a wood tail block and an air brushed pin line...and some stripes...It was fun and it looks cool but because I'm not a top name brand no one will even pay me for my basic material cost.,,,But I have a real job and don't get paid to do art....and I have lot's more.............art.....yes....

I'm not an artist. I'm a guy with too many tools.........Ray

Thanks as well.... You said define artwork... Im putting a pattern type thing the is going to take up the whole bottom of my board.

reisn tinted and pigmented on foam

has a structural integrity and durability

that make it superior to other alternatives.

if you are an artist who paints with color

and not one who wishes to duplicate

high resolution patterns like fabric and

cartoon reproductions

The freeform opportunities to access

abstract expressionism set forth by

mid century revolutionaries bare fruit

in these media.

A big foam canvas ,i.e.surfboard,

is an intoxicating asteroid that has

a half life of twenty to 100 years if

engineered well.Posca pens and

even a sharpie explosion are an

option less commited.test your finish

coat compatibility first before

destroying hours if not days of work.

the bitchin deal about application of

art formats on glassed clear boards

before finish coats is they can be removed.

color and illustration under glass is permanent.

Sometimes I paint on foam, sometimes I do resin abstracts...pin stripes can go on foam or after hot coat...

I like wood...

I have a style and a method for my maddness.......

Swaylocks search for Atomized and Speedneedle will blow your mind.  Did you see the thread where the guy did a California Flag on a board?

And Drew Brophry has a web page...

Alright... thanks for the help.
