attacked by fame ?

did anyone alse read that article posted in the swaylock’s worldwide surfboard news ? what a bunch of crap !! (written by some punk from an oregon college newspaper) that kook, and his editor, need to hear from everyone who thinks his words were out of line. his email is at the bottom if the article. (maybe cc the editor too !) what do you guys think ?

It’s a satire, criticizing America’s lack of concern about broader issues, like the war in Iraq and unemployment. At least that’s my take on it.

Another interesting situation. The actual article was a well-deserved kick in the gonads administered to the current U.S. celebrity culture. However, his insensitive jokes were just that - insensitive. The human at the center of the situation almost seems irrelevant - which is exactly the problem the writer is attacking. The irrelevant victim/celeb was poorly treated in the article, and also is poorly treated like a meat commodity by the potential profiteering involved in the media circus. As for the reality of the Hamilton story, she’s a kid with a whole life ahead. Her being able to get back on a surfboard, while a heartening step in recovery, is less than a baby step in a long road she’s going to walk. Any income generated at this point, at least in the speculated figures I’ve read, wouldn’t even put her through a 4 year college like Oregon, not to mention the related medical costs she’s accumulated so far and will continue to add too. A clothing line is pretty tasteless, though. Maybe what she needs is better representation. I’m told that what one would normally get to appear on Letterman wouldn’t buy you a new Cooperfish longboard.
