Attempt of a Wombat

Hey guys I just shaped my first wombat style board for my little brother.

Dimensions are 5’10 x 19" x 2 3/8"

Started with 50/50 rails from the nose going to 20/80 rails in the tail. I tried to sand it, but I still have some little bumps where for example the 50/50 rails go to 40/60.

How can I smooth them out to get nice, smooth rails? Just put some cloth between the sanding paper an my hands so that only the bumps are sanded?!

Any idea for bottom contures? I thought about a flat bottom with a little vee…

Thanks a lot:)

I take it you're still in the shaping process (not a hotcoat sand).

If so, and you've got bumps in the transition of your rail shape, you should take a long block and very lightly hit the high spot. Then make progressively longer strokes across the area, still very light pressure. Vary the angle of block as appropriate. Finish with screen or paper wrapped.

Much better to get the bumps out before finesanding. If your rail bands are good you won't have this problem.

Have fun and good on ya shapin' one for your little brother.
