i have exhausted my attempts to find a decent selection of glass on fins. this winter i will start making my own panels, too busy to start that now,i am looking for anyone who makes fins or if i can be sent in the right direction, thanks in advance
Hey mate, where are you located?, that might help.
Also, making your own fins isnt that hard. Search “homemade fins”. I think chip also has a thread in the resources/articles but i could be wrong
Here’s a link to the classic Bert Burger plywood fin building thread…
get ready for hell.
building fins is not as easy as it looks…
laying up fins panels is a messy expensive process…
and grinding fiberglass is just a silly thing to do around your house…
so go for it and let us know how it goes!!!
if you like glassing over the fins, then good quality plywood (ex birch) is an excellent choice. they look great too.
Hi Teddy,
Step by step fin making instruction with pics here:
Fins are not hard to make and it’s really rewarding to complete your homeshape with a set of your own fins. You make the board, why not make the fins too? ya know?

teddy, feel free to email/pm me as you proceed. The archives have tons of information as well. If you are well advised, you will get pretty rideable fins by your fifth or sixth, and very good fins by your 12th. After that, it can go any direction you choose, the sky’s the limit. Some people have been ordering G10 panels from industrial suppliers. These are stiffer than glass and restrict your color options, but they come out of the box ready to cut the template and foil. A panel for a DIYer at home should take an hour. After the learning curve, foiling a thruster set is also less than an hour. If you do lots of them, just a few minutes per fin (however, before you reach that point you will have filled several trash cans with sanding dust). I know wood is the DIY rage right now, but I would not move into non-standard materials until I mastered glass first and learned a little about templating, foiling, and fin stiffness. To get an industrial-quality finish, you can apply gloss the same as you gloss a surfboard. Have fun with it!
Greenlight…there are board builders in philly??? yo it’s ted…Trill surfboards…i am friends with the chris, aka 8:16…i am looking for a good fiberglass glass on, sorry no wood…i will be up your way next week for some materials…Blakestah, i am on the east coast if you are looking to sell a few fins. i am going to start making my own because i understand the basics. i just don’t have the time now to dedicate to it. i have a beautiful 4 stringer clark board, wrapped in volan, which needs a sweet pivot fin, glassed on. right now i am leaning towards taking a box fin and cutting it up.

Didn’t know it was you man…
We have a big shipment of Proboxes on the way and a few fiberglass fin samples from Fiberglass Fin Co. I can get you whatever you need. You should try foiling a few for yourself though. It’s fun
Gimme a call and stop on over.
