Aviso vs Firewire

1st off I would just like to say hello as I’ve lurked but never posted.

2nd, yes I already searced and didn’t find what I was looking for.

With that said, does anyone have experience on both a Firewire and Aviso? Specifically I’m wondering about the 6’4" Firewire and 6’3" Aviso Doc, but other comparable boards would help as well.

I’m tired of damaged boards that last a year and I’m looking into both of these companies.

Thanks

Tom

where are you located?

I’m in NY so it’s mostly NY & NJ beach breaks. I make 2 or 3 trips to San Diego and 1 designated surf trip a year.

Look at the new Surfing Mag. it is the January 2007 issue they do an entire piece on the new construction processes since the close of Clark. Actually a really good article.

howzit,

the aviso is worth the money. i picked up the 6-6 rusty and was really impressed, not corky at all, makes a fat old boy like me look good on a wave! the best description i can come up with is the board obeys me. pump it and it accelerates trim it and it holds. its super light and very durable for it’s weight. had it since early spring 2006 and do not have any pressure dings. shortly after my first purchase i went and ordered 3 more!

the aviso guys are also very helpful with questions and customer service and their factory is in the U.S.

as far as the firewire goes i cannot comment as i have never ridden one.

I’m leaning towards the Firewire as they are a little cheaper and fixing them if the do actually get dinged will be easier.

I don’t think I can go wrong either way, even if I don’t like it the resale on both of them seems to be insane.

I was talking with my local surfshop owner and he said that the firewire’s and aviso’s both have their pros and cons. So i borrowed a suit and headed out in the 45 degree water to test them. I personally lke the firewire, i also tested a boardworks and teh new tl22 from surftech. They are all really nice. But my vote in the firewire vs. aviso is the firewire. I also have a original surftech merrick flyer, that is a great board too. Hoped it helped.

I was ready to pull the trigger on the 6’4" Firewire, but backed out.

I sold my CI at South Coast so they were going to roll the money from that board into a 6’4" Firewire that a guy used 2x and didn’t like. At 1st I thought they were going to do $700 + shipping. They decided to keep it at full retail so it would of been $795 + $105 for shipping and packaging.

Guess I’m not really ready to drop $900 on board I’ve never ridden . .

Long Beach Surf Shop in NY plans on getting Firewire soon so maybe I’ll revisit this in a month or 2.
