"Back to where it all began where life was simple no rip-off people and it was fun"

Hey Yorky,

on the 5'6 double diamond,

did you cut the tail outline then cut the channels

or

did you leave the tail more or less square  (maybe with just the outer bit cut in), cut the channels then cut the outline?

Just wondering??

Old fashion method. Tape. Pain in the arse. Spackle sounds good. Thanks for the tip.

PE for gloss coat

Hi,
Nar no spackle in my fins, its pu foam shaped (over size ‘slightly’) then inserted in then sanded flush. For the screw holes, same pu foam for screw holes rolled up tight (so they expand) and screwed in and sanded flush also. Finish coat then, simply pick em out.

  THIS …

is a GREAT  PHOTO THREAD Yorky … thanks !

… a bit like the share your stoke swaylocks of old !  I wish more people would do photo threads and build threads

  cheers , and keep up the good work , mate …yewwwww S T O K E D !

 and , I LOVE the fin , Ra !

that board looks like a LOT of  fun !!

Hi Bertie,
I finish the board as a chisel cut off square (all fine sanded). Then draw on Channels and tail shape.
Shape in the channels then cut the tail in last.

Are you doing anything to keep the PE from flaking off the epoxy?  One hit, a white spot, second hit the gloss flakes off

Thanks Yorkie.

I just shaped my first board that way and was wanting conformation I was going about it the right way!

Any tips on getting the stringer on the inside of the V to clean up nice and tidy? I got there with a file but it wasnt as pretty as I'd hoped for.

Cheers

Bertie

Here’s the 5’6".
Green tint top and bottom, with a black filler coat.
Just had fun with this one, no real plan.
Cut lap on deck and free lap on the bottom (not sanded flush).
I certainly didn’t plan this build, the only thing that remained constant was the width and wide point.
Everything else morphed into what it is so far.

The deck is fillered in black also.
Then I’ll add edges, fcs then finish coat.

how did the double ender go yorky?

The double ender hahaha

I took it out with all fins in (as in the pic above). After a while surfing it I realised as a surfboard, its awesome…As a coffee table

It did work quite conventional surfed from either end with only the one set of fins in.

Also, felt the same from either end, which is neither good nor bad.

It was a bit thin also…so???

Fun board to keep, funny thing is i reckon it will be best when the waves are good from the lines it drew.

Cheers

I've noticed the one hit white spot. It's an issue for sure. Looks bad. I thought sanding the substrate to[only] 80 grit would solve the problem. I might have to go back to ALL epoxy. Havn't tried that yet with R&R. Still on my first 6KG beginners pack. Thanks to Sways I just learnt how to make my onw formula [f] The distributor won't supply anymore other than comes with the 6kg. I think I understand why… Zyleen?

Let's put it this way, ES… I'm having a big old rethink about how I  clad a board. Might go back to Balsa as it's become available here now through Richard Harvey … might explore .06 venneers as the major Pacific regional distribitor is just down the road or I might get into Palonia as a buddy of mine has just started  milling his substancial and almost overly mature plantation. I nudged 'im a bit… wink.

Trying to get away from fibreglass or more to the point, getting itchy by it. LOL. maybe there is NO  getting away from that shit.

It's all good though.

Well, Fuk the simple life for a while.

Rip in and get what I want.

crowds are getting ‘Brutal’ here on the Gold coast.

Time to add some serious volume and mow down weight to IMHO, the hardest design to shape ‘high performance short board’
