Here’s a collection of photos from a recent build. A new stick for my brother Richard, he’s 47yo, 5’8 175lbs advanced surfer, shortboarding here in Hawaii since late 70’s
5’8 x 18 3/4 x 2 5/16 PUPE
USBlanks 6’3EA Red, FCS Fusion
UV cure lamination & hotcoat, 4x4+4oz + toe patches, all S-glass, sanded finish with quick polish
outline drawn up with boardcad, full template printed on paper then transferred to hardboard
rough cut outside of line with jig saw or japanese pull saw
finish with fairing board until line is just a hair thick
I use a low RPM router to cut outlines, the router is set up and dedicated to this one use. long router bits can be lethal please research
well as long as people realize I’m not making any claims to my method, but works pretty well for me
alrighty then, lets bust out the hitachi get this thing rough shaped, planed to thickness rocker adjusted. maybe have time for concave and some rail bands.
This folks is how it’s done. The most important take away from this thread is how important it is to work cleanly at every stage. Working neatly makes everything come together so much easier and results in a better finished product. Well done!!!
Bud ---------- It has really has come together for you the last few years. You are definatly “Pro” from shape to glass. Didn’t realize you were in the Islands. Where?? Lowel
Nice Bud! Always like to really check out the photos you post. Lots of little tricks, thanks. I have to thank you for showing the forstner bit in the drill. I saw that on one of your other post and have the same set up for leash plugs. Such a time saver for making clean holes especially on guns with thick stringers. Thin ply stingers not so good before a lam coat, bit can wander.
Also to put a leash string on your brothers board, man thats true love!
