baggin the bag??

seasons greetings swaylockers

any vacuum baggers out there?

What sort of performance are you getting out of your vacuum set ups?

My first go doesnt seem quite there.

If I run it to 8", the pump switches on every 40 seconds, but only for about 3 seconds. Does that sound right?

The vacuum pump set up by itself will hold whatever setting for a long time, so I think it’s the bag, which is just plastic sheet taped together. I can’t hear any leaks.

Any thoughts…

I fought with the sheet plastic/tape method too. I wasted alot of time and hair trying to get a decent seal. I finally ordered some bagging tube-4mil-from fiberglass supply. The stuff is cheap and works very well. I have bagged four boards with the same bag and so far no drama.

I also made some bag seals similar to the ones that acp sells. I used a 3/4 poplar dowel and some thin pvc pipe. I cut the pipe lenght wise on the band saw and deburred the edges, snap togther at the bag ends and walla…

Leaks - I agree with the good bag comment. I started of with the tape and tarp approach and it produced a lot of drama.

My first bag was home made and cost $20 to make and worked in my tests.

On the 1st bagging run I had leaks and had to scrap the bottom skin and reshape

1/4 off the bottom.

My $15 FH bag has worked great for six pulls.

Save yourself the headache and buy a bag @ $3 a yard, their cheap.

1.None or too small vacuum resevior.2. Check system prior to bag hook up. Holds vacuum? If yes then it is your bag. If no find the leak in the system and try again.

Thanks for they help guys.

Will try to hunt out some tubing in NZ.

I used 4 mil from Home Depot and cheap masking tape (a lot- maybe one whole 2" roll). My pump was rated for continuous duty with a bleeder valve. Worked like a charm. Maybe I had beginner’s luck?
