Bambooo?

2 part question. 1 where can I get good cheap larger panels of bamboo for foiling fins? 2 I got some of Marlin at 101 the are glued to a plastic bottom. I got some lokbox and some single bonzer fins. Does anybody know what the base is mad of and how to conect the fin to the base. I was thinking its a mold bc he said its hard to get them centered. Yes I have read the how not to foil you fin thread. I am addicted to bonzers and at 150 for a set of fins I need to get grinding. BTW 3 bonzers shaped this week will have pics soon.

greenlight is/was selling really nice bamboo panels perfect for fins…no clue how to get the bases done.

Home made bamboo bonzer fins.  I bought the panel off a guy who posts of the Surfermag design forum.  His handle is “Heavyfooted.” He’s in Orange County.   But then again it was 1/4"=  too thick for the runners, so I had to grind them down (no problem).  I had to build them up for the center fin.  The double foil is harder to foil.  I’ve also used the Greenlight panels.  They’re milled to thickness.  Nice stuff.

Same, no clue on how to get the bases on for a lokbox, and it has been a long time since I messed with bonzers. I did foil a set of glass on fins. If I were to guess as to how to connect the fin the base, I would suggest cutting a tab for the base and putting a bevel on it and glassing it to the fin.

I saw some cheap bamboo cuttingboards at the suppermart.

Or you could use boo flooring from home cheapo if you don’t mind some cutting it  down to size.

That is awesome.  I really do want to see the fin that comes from the coctail cutting board…

Shape your fin out of high density Pu FOAM then veneer your wood with a vacuum bag using epoxy. Once out of the bag three layers of 6oz on each side with polyester resin then foil set fins as usual. You will have beautiul fins that will perform well and not cost an arm and a leg! Do a nice Halo in clear on the edge of the fins. Make at least 3 sets to make it worth the effort. I make between 15 to 20 fins per panel.

For now I just buy them however if money is tight and time is on your side then make some!
