Bandsaw Recomendation for building boards

I have had this bandsaw for 8 years and it is a work horse. 4.5 HP Baldor Motor. It was a little expensive at the time however it has more than payed for itself.

Good tools make projects very enjoyable:

Twenty one inch!  That's what you call "deep throat".

S’Ding, You have the Cadillac of band saws. I know it set you back a pretty penny, but I always say, get the best you can possibly afford ( and sometimes when you can’t). A four and a half horse motor is HUMONGOUS with power to spare. You can get a lot of re-sawing done on that machine. How wide of a blade can you go? This tool will be one that gets handed down to the great grandkids. I’ve only got a couple of two horse fourteens, but I love 'em. I’m jealous.

ps. For eight years old, it is remarkably clean. It shows your love of tools and craftsmanship. Good on ya.

They make great tools and their bandsaws are at the top of the heap.  Has any one heard how they are doing with the CNC shaping machine they were working on?

M’Ding, Haven’t heard anything about it. This is news to me. Will try to find out even though it’s out of my price range.

My understanding was that it was in the works.  Less exspensive than any thing else on the market but still probably $20K plus.  I think there was a post about it somewhere on Sways.  Shouldn't be that hard for Laguna as they are already manufacturing CNC tools.

Tool envy

Thanks tblank:

I had some rust on the table and polished it up and took a picture with my Blackberry. And thought about the boards I built and the fins I made and all the rocker templates. I use a 1" re-saw king blade that cuts paper thin veneer. For scrolling I use a 3/8" and some times even a 1/4". I love woodworking and I’m getting ready to make a series of 1940 - 1954 wooden boards. Hoping to get them looking vintage and stressed. Built a new Theater Room and need some cool wall hangers for decoration. Tuning up all my tools to get getting for the project.

The Bandsaw made over a 1,000 stringers when I was making blanks. However wooden boards are more rewarding. With so many orders for Shortboards with sand finish it’s time to mix it up a bit. This last year the bandsaw had little to no use. Can’t wait to get busy again.

4.5 HP is plenty however I almost bought a 7 HP 21" Laguna. The 16 HD doesn’t take up vary much room and I think its a great tool for anyone that loves to build boards or furniture. Expensive however the ROI is fast!

That’s so funny! I spent the afternoon re-waxing my cabinet saw, band saws, jointer bed, and shaper table. After seeing your picture I started feeling guilty and spent some time cherrying out the shop. They say a clean shop is a sign of a clean mind. In my case…IT AINT TRUE!

Preparation is part of the process!
