Found these in a customers house today, Bing 9'6" x 22" couldn't measure any of the thicknesses, never heard of a Dextra from Casa Mesa Cali. 9' 4" x 20", C C Mini Pin 8' 2" x 23 1/2 " very cool pig shape and a board that only has 3 triangles for a logo and no other marks 9' 10" x 22 1/2" all have glass on fins except the mini pin. Any historians out there that could shed some light on the last 3 boards.
Tom, im very curious about the pig, can you please tell me nose, tail and widepoint placement numbers, and maybe some rocker and bottom curve info?? Probably asking a lot, but for some strange reason, the "pig" style longboards make sense to me, but i hardly see any here, and i hardly see any in general that short. An 8'2 would fit in my corolla hahah.
Dextra - Totally crap popouts from the mid 60s. Not worth much at all, unless they are in mint condition. Very rare to find a clean one, since they used cheap materials and the things would brown up really fast.
The board with three triangles is a Hobie. Pretty safe bet. looks like someone took three Hobie lams and cut the middle out. Have you never seen a Hobie logo before? looks like another mid 60s stock board
That “Mini Pin” is a Con. Late 60s. Most likely 1968. the labels pretty much spell out what it is. Con CC Rider. Claude Codgen design/model. Looks like the Con lam got damaged.
The Bing looks like a stock item. Bing strolls through here once in a while. I think you can contact him through the Bing website. I believe he’s one of the few who kept records and he may be able to tell you when the board was made, and (possibly) who the original owner was.
Pictures of the fins and/or fin boxes can help determine age. Take 'em. Post 'em.
When I found these I new I could get the history from you, and yes I knew the logo looks like Hobies, but I couldn't find any other boards on the net that has the same triple outline so before jumping the gun I wanted to ask the experts.
Your Bing #5647 was ordered by “West Wind Surf Shop” on June 26, 1966. Pretty clean looking board. Is the bottom as nice as the deck? I’d like to see a shot of the fin.
Your Light weight #9397 was ordered by Brian Hollister from “Val Surf” in Norrth Hollywood, Ca. The date of the order was March 4, 1968.
If you would like a “Birth Certificate” for your board send me your email address to bcsur-at-sunvalley.net, Same goes for you, Tom. By The way Tom, West Wind surf shop was located at 501 Union Ave. Brielle, NJ
The board is in great shape, I'll post pics of the fin and bottom, I found this in the town of Avon about 4 towns from Brielle. I was born and raised in Brielle and lived walking distance from Union Ave, but I was born in 1963 and I don't remember West Wind surf shop.
I wish Doc, I got her from California a few years back from an old couple that used it for fixing up their rental properties. 1962 all original 170 cu inch 6 cyl. 3 on the tree and very little rust. Purrs like a kitten
OK, you know that the Bing came from Brielle. I remember a Bing shop on Rt. 71. I guess they moved around '67/'68 There was a Hobie dealer in Belmar I can’t remember it’s name. The Con probably came from Kellers in Lavallette. The Dextra is anyone’s guess. Just goes to show you that these boards don’t travel far from home. Great find!
Most likely came from a hardware or department store. That’s where most popouts were sold on the EC. Though, some surf shops carried popouts to satisfy the bottom feeder market.
