I have been lurking in the background for awhile and thought it might be time to join the forum. I don’t have a lot of time available to participate but will do my best.
You guys have been doing a pretty effective job of dissecting surfboard building. The subjects that are covered here are… well… amazing in their diversity.
I didn’t know you were here on the NS. Pardon me if I should know some things that I don’t. I haven’t participated enough to know who is who on the list. I can’t connect real names with IDs yet and the secretive nature of everyones profiles doesn’t help much.

Have we met before?
No, we havent met. But i remeber as a kid in the early 80s hanging out at the old lightning bolt shop with Jack Shipley he always used to tell me that if you ever turn pro you want to get your boards from Bill Barnfield and thats been sorta etched in my mind ever since.
Anyway yeah im here on the North shore near Laniakea right next to squiddys old house. I also distribute Resin Research resin for Greg Loehr here in Hawaii. Once again wecome to the board and I look forward to your insight into surfboard design.
Aloha Billy ‘‘the Dean’’ Barnfield , hey Billy welcome ,hope your doin well .Iam on my way up to SB. right now to meet Andreini, too much!! Ive been lurkin around here for years, theres a whole bunch of good guys here. Were lucky to have Bill chip in here hes a true Master craftsman.
For a Brazilian shaper who is an affictionated of the surfing world, it’s an honour to have a so important figure joined to the forum. I’m bowing like the icon, too. Welcome!!!
For as minor a thing as surfing is in the world, it always amazes me how much it and the people in it, have an impact on peoples lives. I am honored and blessed to have been/be a part of that. I had a great time in those Lighning Bolt days, Shipley is a great guy.
Please stop by my shop and introduce yourself. Especially since you are the RR guy here. I am here most every day. I don’t have any epoxy projects on the table at the moment but it is good to know you are nearby. I always keep some around for unusual projects. I am sure we will do some business together in the future.
WOW! Kirk Putnam… now that IS a blast from the past!
How ya been? What are you doing these days?
For those who may not know, Al Merrick hired Kirk to work the original small retail store that was Channel Islands Surfboard that he started on Helena St in SB near the pier.
I am sure Kirk and I can share some great stories about that summer that I was there. Like…a young Kirk’s difficulty in remembering to lock up the shop when he left for the day…Remember that Kirk?? Ha! Ha!
Say hello to Andrini for me and tell him to join the forum.
Thank you for the compliments. As you may know I have a particular affinity for Brasilians. Especially ones with a last name of Lopes. Pepe Lopes was like a brother to me and his untimely passing has always left a big hole in my heart.
Keep up the good work…you have some big shoes to fill with a name like Lopes!
