BASE shaping machine

does anybody know anything about the shaping machine BASE is using? saw some gun profiles, blew me away. any info??

from what i know they use several, one is the csd machine located in currumbin, i think the blue tounge factory part and jimmy woodchip does some from machines like KRs, micheal the german has 2 machines which nev has been using for a long time. one is faily new and does the bottom rail too. simon anderson did use abros and i believe there is a kkl machine at byron. http://www.feraldave.com

Dave, Do you know if BASE are using Greg Loehr’s epoxy? DHD are using it in the US. Cheers, (looked at the Mullet sizes for the board templates I posted a couple of days ago, too small for my guy, according to him anything under 6’ is a “kid’s board”)

im under the impression they are not useing resin research epoxy at base. i have been trying to help greg get the resin here so i can use it! i think we are getting somewhere too! http://www.feraldave.com

Dave, Who is Base? And Aussie outfit?

base is the group of , simon anderson, nev, dhd, maurice, pipedream,. they have joined forces in the hope of cutting costs. they are controlled by a ceo in a corporate way. there are many negative conjestures to what they are doing, im sure they have positive reasons and see benifits for themselves. they have employed people to make thier own foam etc. http://www.feraldave.com

ok, now we know what BASE is. but back to the original question. the profiles I saw did not come of a profiler or a CES machine, certainly not from KKL either. these looked clean as. they still had little ridges but the foam looked clean cut. even more impressive was the fact that these boards looked perfectly fluent (i talk about a 10’ gun), something I have not seen before in a machined board. someone knows how to contact that german, micheal??

Dave and James B - when you write about CES or CSD are you talking about C.E.T? http://members.ozemail.com.au/~cetsurf/pages/backgr.html and making typo’s or are these another two types of machine?

CSD stands for cybernetic surf designs. its a machine built in west oz and operated here in currumbin by a mr syd willmett. it uses max9 software. maybe if you saw the profiles at base you could go back and ask them who cut them and where you can get some? http://www.feraldave.com

James i also have seen some of these profiles you are talking about, these are of unbelievable quality this could make a pro out of a complete novice , i believe they only take approx 10 to 15 min to finish off , should see the end of the need for ghosts in the future

In some of their pressers BASE say they are spending 150k pa on research. They also say they are vertically integrated ie doing everything from foam to glass to retail inhouse. I’m kinda suprised to read that they are getting blanks profiled in several places, I’m also suprised they haven’t talked to Resin Research. (That’s why I didn’t address the question about Greg’s Epoxy to Greg in case he wasn’t at liberty to discuss any deals) you’d think if they were serious about looking at new materials they would’ve come across RR’s resin by now. The fact that the GM is a brand development guy rather than an ops guy, which is what you’d expect with a manufacturing venture, makes it looks like they’re looking at apparel as well…
