Bay Area Surfboard parts suppliers?

I’m looking for things like plugs, boxes, gloss resin and the million other things you don’t know you need till you see them in person. Fiberglass Hawaii in Santa Cruz is a little too far I think.

Anyone know a good store?

Thanks

Assuming you surf, you can plan a 80 minute drive that incorporates the stop for supplies.

Try BobMiller, ASD (Burlingame) for boxes and some supplies

Call Wise in SF, he has some supplies, but seems to forget he once was a grassroots shaper and boardbuilder.

Got them, Thanks!

Nah, Kai, its much easier than that.

Go to Svenhards Boat Works in Alameda. Its right across the 23rd st/Park bridge.

Go into the commercial desk, across the way from the retail shop, and ask for Mike. Don’t go between 11:30 & 1, he’s at lunch.

Mike works with FGH and sends a truck back & forth once or twice a week. Anything FGH has, Mike can get you, delivered to Alameda. Including blanks. He stocks resin (poly, UV poly, and Epoxy - but not Resin Research), several weights of glass, squeegees, cabosil, etc…and can easily get you finboxes, leash plugs, fins, even a Pleskunas Rocker Stick if you really have to have one

No markup from FGH’s price…in fact, if you go in a few times, he’ll set you up in the computer & give wholesale on certain stuff. I got some 6oz S glass that was list at $12 a yard, wholesaled at $8.50, and he sold it to me for just over $6, because I was buying other stuff.

For carbon fiber, vac bagging supplies, other epoxies, you can’t beat Aerospace Composite Products in Livermore. At the Livermore muni airport exit.

I use the Tap Plastics epoxy with really nice results (as long as your shop is above 65* F & not damp) and they are the cheapest for mixing buckets, stir sticks, squeegees, etc. They also have poly resins, cabosil, etc., but their glass cloth can be expensive. Closest to Oakland is on Alvarado in San Leandro which is off Marina Bl East, behind the outlet mall.

Drive to Santa Cruz? On 880? Forget it.

Edit: BTW, Bob closed his Burlingame shop almost 3 years ago, and the Coyote Point rental store more than 1 year ago. He’s in Santa Cruz again, in what until recently was the Palm St surf shop (next to Rasche) that the Palm guys bought…from Bob (used to be Longboard Heaven) several years earlier. Bob even moved over the hill & lives on 36th now. His wife got the Peninsula house :frowning:

Phone in an order to Fiberglass Hawaii, and have someone bring it up for you. Most Bay Area shapers go there weekly anyway, hook up with one, works well.

Tap Plastics in SF has some stuff, but I don’t like their resins enough (especially the brown resin). But for fiberglass rollers, cloth, etc, they cost more than FGH but are much much closer.

SF Surfshop has more ding repair supplies than Wise, so does Aqua.

But the real deal is FGH, and you want to phone in an order and have someone you know drive it up for you. Besides, no one closer will have plugs and boxes anyway.

If you do drive down there is also Fiberglass Santa Cruz, they carry Resin Research Epoxy.

Closed & gone in the Clark aftermath.

But Stretch sells it.

don’t overlook mail order, either.

Eg. Fiberglass Supply in Washington has bodhi bottles, fin boxes, footstrap inserts, leash plugs, fiberglass cloth etc etc at very reasonable prices. www.fiberglasssupply.com

ProBox Hawaii will sell you an install kit, boxes & fins by mail. very reasonable prices. www.proboxhawaii.com

Lots of other option for mail order too.

Resin I tend to pick up in person, as its heavy.

search the web, no driving required…

So there isn’t a Santa Cruz supplier anymore. Is there anyone else in the Bay Area? Tap I don’t know, I thought they were more plexiglas and whatnot. I like to look at what I’m buying. And possibly squeeze it a little.

Fiberglass Hawaii Santa Cruz location now closed. Ventura is the closest branch.

Honestly I’d just order from Fiberglass Supply or FoamEZ … but I know what you mean, it’s nice to be able to get it NOW when you need it.

Unfortunately, that don’t happen here in Wisconsin

As far as the RR epoxy – order direct from Greg. You won’t get a better price and he gets it out right away.

Hi Kai,

If you order from us before 2pm PST the order goes out same day and ships ground to anywhere in California in one day. The result is, if you order it by 2pm you’ll have it the next day on your door step. We inventory a huge stock of goods to insure that we won’t run out and can ship same day. You can either place the order online or call your order in.

Let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Best of luck in your endeavor.

I’ve been searching the web since FGH in Santa Cruz closed, but I can not find 4 oz. S-2 Glass in 38" width. Does anyone have a source, mail order or otherwise?
