Beak noses

Does anyone have any pics of
“beak noses”
up-close and different angles
not sure what they look like
going to shape my first board
and I know the nose is supposed
to be “beaked”
thanks for any help

Beak is created by driving a downrail shape through the tip of the board, There has to be some thickness left at the tip to do a real beak. Don't ''shape'' the beak too much, let the intersection of the rail bands do it. For a beginning shaper, the bands close to nose are probably going to be done with a block. Planer users can just take the bands right off the nose (while being careful not to explode the stringer). Very little sanding or touch-up if done properly with planer. The foam that needs to be removed is the same either way, so if you're doing it with a block, try to picture what the planer would do and emulate that.

There's an alternate way to do it where you define the profile in the foil, and then do the rail banding to try match it, but that can lead to some ''blobby'' noses.

hows this

Whaddya mean, “overdone”?

Mike said it perfectly… easiest way is to extend your angular rail bands all the way to the nose, keeping the same angle. If forms a natural beak.

Chapman cuts them down with a sureform....Just starts hacking away.
