"bear" with me please....

OK,

So I made sure to do several searches/ read throughs before I decided to post this, however, as this is truly my first attempt at this sort of deal I wanted further clarification and more guidance than previous posts will grant me.

*** I am trying to change the color of the deck of my twin keel 5’7" (scooped deck) from - a ‘tri’ region multi colored deck to match the deep orange fairly good condition bottom.

the deck is split up into 3 different “zones” the back 1/3 near the fins is pretty close to the color of the bottom but not the same , the center of the board (or beveled section) is swirled orange and yellow from a previous repair attempt , and the front 1/3 of the board is off white and then red “sunset” at the very nose.

BASICALLY i’m interested in

A) Sanding the whole deck rough style (which i’ve already done)

B) since i dont want to add too much weight — coloring this area with acrylic paint to match the bottom?

c) lamination with 2 oz cloth and clear laminating resin

d) letting this dry for a week?

e) clear gloss coat (which i have no idea what this means or entails)

f) shredding

Am i on the right track?

I really appreciate any comments and guidance. And sincerely hope that no one is bugged that i’m asking about this since there is page upon page of previous discussion on the matter. Like is said im really inexperienced and interested in doing this on my own.

THANKS

mikel

You can just mask off the area, spray it with the color, then gloss or do a clear spray directly over the paint to seal the color. You don’t need to add a layer of glass over the painted area.

Make sure that you leave the board out of the sun for several hours before and during the gloss coat application. If the painted area is too warm/hot, it may cause the gloss coat to orange peel.

I’m sure someone with more experience than me will chime in here, but as far as step F goes…that’s exactly the last thing to do!!!

OH, and we love pictures too, if you’re able to post some

well it worked, thanks for the advice, although after i posted this question i just asked my pop on the phone, following his instructions worked perfect and it actually turned out really good i.m.h.o.

will happily post pics when the whole process is complete…

thanks again you guys
