belly

In need of more volume and length i have decided on copying an old mini-mal which is in the shop.

It has a great outline and rocker but also has belly through the board with V out the fins. Is this normal for a board of this length and is it a good idea.

Have done a search but cannot find anything on this length. bearing in mind our waves are pretty weak and fat…

any advise would be great

cheers Steve

Belly seems to smooth out rough, backwashy, windripped conditions, like those found in big waves.

Tri and quad panels (concave or not) seem to do almost the same, but make the board more responsive…at the risk of being “chattery” on really big powerful surf.

Small, weak and flat favors slight concaves, multipanels or single, it gives some shape to the bottom so your board is stiffer and not “boing” going thru surf.

Flat to concave is more responsive and precise for small surf.

Belly and V is really only needed on big powerful waves.

Yes, belly can lead to rolling into powered bottom turns and easy rail to rail, but on small weak surf, who needs that? Maybe response is more important…and lift from some panel concaves.

Just my observations.

Thanks for info… flat to concave it is then…

sorry me again… can you tell me would those same rules apply to a longboard.

Cheers. steve
